Police in DuPage County, Illinois on Friday said that a man was facing criminal charges for sexually abusing his pet peacock named Phyl, which was later found dead.

According to the Daily Herald, 64-year-old David Beckmann was arrested on charges of misdemeanor animal cruelty while Roselle police were investigating another case. Beckman was also charged with indecent solicitation of a child and misdemeanor battery in connection with a Tuesday night case that involved a minor between the ages of 13 and 17.

Few details about the peacock were available because it was connected to the case involving the child. The state’s attorney’s office, however, confirmed that Beckmann was accused of sexually abusing his peacock.

Police said that they had seen Phyl alive prior to April 28. Beckman was being held in DuPage County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

The New York Daily News reported that Beckman also “faces three charges of harassment by telephone, two counts of marijuana possession [and] unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.”
