The Minnesota state Senate will begin debating same sex marriage at 1 p.m. EST, ahead of the final vote required for its passage.

The House has already approved the bill, with a vote of 72-59 last Thursday.

Gov. Mark Dayton (D) has promised to sign it into law if the Senate concurs, making Minnesota the 12th state to extend the right of marriage equally to all its citizens.
