Conservative Christian radio host Matt Barber on Tuesday said that liberals and “comprehensive sex education” had caused a new strain of gonorrhea that is resistant to traditional treatments.

Earlier this year, the Center for Disease Control warned that a strain of gonorrhea had developed a resistance to the antibiotic cephalosporin, and it was being seen in higher rates in western states.

To delay the emergence of the drug-resistant strains, the CDC advised clinicians to “counsel sexually active adults, particularly those living in high prevalence areas, to engage in mutually monogamous partnerships with uninfected partners and to consistently and correctly use latex condoms, which can reduce transmission.”

But on Monday, Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber said that sex education was making the problem worse.

“By telling children, ‘Don’t do as I say, do as I do’ with comprehensive sex education giving a wink and a nod sometimes, not even all the time anymore because Obama has lifted all the abstinence education requirements, hey, it’s a free-for-all,” Barber explained. “Well, we are reaping what we have sewn in this nation. CNBC is reporting that a new sex superbug could be worse than AIDS.”

“Sexually transmitted disease running rampant with kids younger and younger and younger,” he continued. “Teenage pregnancy through the roof. Thanks a lot, left. Comprehensive sex education. You’re to blame. Progressives and leftists are to blame for these children suffering the consequences of their lifestyle. They are reaping what they sow. And in large part, the left is to blame.”
