New York State Police say a Potsdam man was arrested Wednesday night at a grocery store in Massena for engaging in lewd acts with a pepperoni sausage.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, a Hannaford prevention loss officer was watching surveillance video and observed 41-year-old John R. Allison rub his exposed penis on the pepperoni and then place it back on the store shelf.

“I watched him go to the back of the store near the beer and the bakery sections. The guy was standing in a corner,” the loss prevention officer reportedly told police. “I thought he was going to steal some merchandise. Instead, he undid what I thought might be his belt. I then saw him unzip his pants.”

Allison was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief “because Hannaford is unable to sell the pepperoni,” according to WWNY-TV.

He was ordered held in the St. Lawrence County jail before being released on a $2,000 bond.
