On Monday night’s edition of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow devoted the full show to recounting the aftermath of the massive tornado that touched down in Moore, Oklahoma on Monday afternoon. Survivors recounted moments of absolute terror as the two-mile wide behemoth funnel-cloud bore down on the region.

“We thought we’d die. We locked the cellar door, we saw it coming,” one survivor told KFOR, fighting back tears. “It got louder and the next thing you know, you see the latch come undone. We couldn’t reach for it. And it ripped open the door and, just, glass and debris starts slamming on us.”

“We thought we were dead, to be honest,” he said.

According to the Associated Press, the death toll from the storm currently stands at 91, several of them children who were killed as they took shelter in the two schools located in the path of the twister.

UPDATE: The AP has revised the death toll in Oklahoma down to 24.
