On his show Wednesday night, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart pointedly mocked a Senate hearing on Apple’s questionable tax practices.

The tech giant pays a lower corporate tax rate than Walmart and uses offshore tax havens to avoid paying tens of billions in taxes. Apple CEO Tim Cook testified to the Senate about the issue on Tuesday.

Stewart showed Cook was greeted with servile praise rather than outrage at the Senate hearing. One senator said she was very “proud” of Apple, while another said he “loved” Apple, and yet another congratulated Apple for changing the world.

“Who are those people?” he remarked. “What the hell was that? What is the opposite of a Genius bar? Apparently, there is nothing Apple can do to get us mad at them.

Stewart described the hearing as “less ‘we are angry at you for breaking curfew’ and more ‘what time do you think you should come home?’”

Cook was happy to offer suggestions to the senators. He told the legislators the tax code should be simplified by removing deductions and lowering the corporate tax rate.

“Corporations are the only reason the tax code is so complicated in the first place,” Stewart said. “Those offshore loopholes didn’t get carved out by poor people.”
