Take heart, Arrested Development fans: Now you can insert Tobias Funke anywhere, in song.
Building on an online skit released by the makers of the Fox cult comedy, Antonius and Vijay Nazareth added their own showtune-like take on the good Dr. Funke’s bid for Hollywood stardom with “Insert Me Anywhere — The Musical,” featuring Kevin Gisi doing the vocals in the style of David Cross, who plays the ever-hopeful “analrapist” (his misguided shortening of the terms “analyst” and “therapist”).
“I’m an action hero waiting to blow every man in town. Not afraid of getting dirty, I am ready to go down,” Gisi sings while Funke is seen trying on different leading man archetypes. “I can be your MVP, my skills with balls are unsurpassed. I can take it all, without a wince, I simply must be cast.”
The original “Insert Me Anywhere,” released May 15, was shot as a casting reel designed by Funke to show his acting range, from hard-boiled hero (“Yippy dippy,” he says in the style of Die Hard‘s John McClane) to Big Man on Campus (“Wait for me! Don’t start that hayride yet”), among others. It also provided a handy guide for splicing him in anywhere a director (preferably Ron Howard or James Cameron) saw fit.
“‘Blue Man Group Understudy’ was just the tip of my talent,” Funke promises on the original website. “Feel free to insert me into any available openings — my bits are sure to startle you!”
The show returns on Sunday, when the fourth season goes live on the streaming video service Netflix.
