The well-known burlesque performer Sparkly Devil was killed early Sunday morning in an automobile accident.

Sarah Klein, 36, was killed in a collision with a party bus on Highway 101, south of San Francisco. Her 43-year-old husband Raul Padilla was driving southbound when they slammed into a center divider, spun around, and were hit by the bus head-on.

Padilla was hospitalized and remained in critical condition on Monday. The California Highway Patrol suspected he was driving under the influence, but toxicology tests have yet to confirm if he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Padilla could face criminal charges.

Klein co-founded the San Francisco-based Hubba Hubba Revue. She had also appeared on various television shows.

“Our grief is immeasurable, and the shock and anguish felt by our entire national & international burlesque community is already staggering,” Hubba Hubba Revue producer Jim Sweeney wrote on Facebook. “A terrible void has appeared where before there was a glittering, wonderful, irreplaceable friend & performer.”

Sweeney said the Hubba Hubba Revue and the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas were both planning “fitting tributes” for Sparkly Devil. She was scheduled to appear at the Burlesque Hall of Fame on Thursday.

“We are saddened to announce the passing of beloved member, vet performer, founder of Legends Challenge and all-around badass, Sparkly Devil,” the burlesque museum wrote on Twitter.
