In a lighthearted segment aired Tuesday night, CBS late night talk show host Craig Ferguson joked with HBO’s liberal talk show host Bill Maher that he’s controlled by “the Borg,” by which he meant the Democratic Party.

The two veteran television hosts began by reminicing about their careers, with Maher boasting that he’s “gangster” because he’s survived the transition between several networks, consistently hanging onto his Friday evening timeslot since 1996. “I’ve endured,” he said.

But it’s not just hosting, Ferguson observed. “You still go out and do the standup,” he said. “You still do your thing.”

Insisting that it’s necessary to get out and vary up the job routine every now and then, Ferguson added that he does stand-up as well, mostly to “get a sense of autonomy from the, from the Borg that controls you.”

“In my case, CBS,” he said. “In your case, the Democratic Party.”

Maher seemed to smart at the quip. “It’s a joke, Bill!” Ferguson insisted. “It’s a joke!”

“I don’t mind a joke,” Maher said. “It’s just not an accurate one.”
