A man in Maine has been arrested for animal cruelty after allegedly shooting a dog with a BB gun over 100 times, WGME reported on Friday.

The Waldoboro Police Department announced on Thursday that Aaron Armstrong had been charged with class C felony aggravated animal cruelty.

Earlier this week, the story of a young black Labrador named “Lady” went viral after X-rays revealed that she had at least 83 small zinc or copper coated steel pellets lodged under her skin.

“She was really super friendly and a sweetheart when I picked her up from a resident’s home after she showed up there,” Laurice Ducharme of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter told the Penobscot Bay Pilot. “She’s about one year old, a black Lab cross, and she’s a sweetheart.”

“She really has the best temperament for something that has gone through what she has, and she now has a wonderful man and his wife caring for her,” she added.

Armstrong was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail on $25,000 cash bail.

A couple adopted Lady on June 11.
