Wednesday night on The Daily Show, host John Oliver ruthlessly mocked Eliot Spitzer’s attempt to return to public office.

The former New York governor previously left office in shame after cracking down on prostitution only to himself be caught in a prostitution sting. Now he is seeking to be comptroller of New York City.

Spitzer’s candidacy is being challenged by the madam who allegedly provided him with prostitutes.

“It shows just how strange this campaign is that in the race to decide who would be best suited to make financial decisions for New York City, the serious candidate is the guy who spent $4000 for one session with a hooker rather than the woman who figured out he would pay it,” Oliver remarked.

But there was yet another candidate who left office in shame over a sex scandal: former Congressman Anthony Weiner, or as Oliver described him, “the human being attached to that penis that we all saw pictures off.”

Weiner hopes to be the next mayor of New York City, and like Spitzer, appears to have strong support.

“Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer surprising everyone with their solid polling,” Oliver said, “which to be fair is kind of the story of their lives.”
