A 52-year-old man faces murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his 29-year-old girlfriend, WNBC-TV reported on Sunday.

Authorities arrested livery cab driver Moises Martínez at the apartment he shared with traffic enforcement agent Yajaira Reyes. Reyes’ body was reportedly found wrapped in a blanket and stuffed in a trash can. Martínez has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.

WINS-AM reported that police were originally called to the apartment around 5:40 Sunday morning in response to a domestic dispute, and found Martínez’s car parked on the sidewalk outside. When officers asked to speak to Reyes, the suspect allegedly told them they could not because he had killed her, before pointing to the trash can. Authorities believe she Reyes was strangled to death.

“I don’t know the perfect marriage,” New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers president Fernando Mateo said in a press conference on Sunday. “But to take it to the degree of killing the person you’re with, that’s just a whole different level.”

Martínez’s employer, Diplo First Class Car Service, had no comment on Sunday.
