Two divers in California recently had the shock of their lives when two humpback whales surfaced just inches away as they were floating near their boat.

Slodivers charter boat owner and captain Shawn Stamback posted a video on Saturday of several people in wetsuits floating in the water while diving Souza Rock on an overcast day.

A brief shot below the surface shows that the water is swarming with small fish.

Just at that moment, two giant humpback break the surface of the water, dwarfing the divers.

“Holy shit!” one diver yells as he swims for the boat. “Oh, my God!”

“You’re going to have to do more to clean that wetsuit,” another person laughs off camera.

Although humpback whales can weigh as much as 50 tons, they feed on tiny shrimp-like krill and small fish. They do not eat humans.
