Gillian Anderson, former co-star of “The X-Files,” stopped by Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show” on Monday to quash a rumor she started at Comic-Con last weekend in San Diego, much to the likely disappointment of science fiction fans.

Anderson, who played Dana Scully on the show, was reunited with her co-star David Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder, and the duo teased out an are-they-or-aren’t-they relationship over the series’ nine seasons. It was finally revealed that the two had a child together, the writers never entirely revealed how William Van de Kamp was conceived (which, given the nature of the show, need not have been naturally).

Fans thought that Anderson dropped a bombshell at a Comic-Con panel celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary, during which she appeared to claim the show runners filmed a sex scene between Scully and Mulder that never aired, adding that the footage was “somewhere.”

“I made a joke about it, but it’s not true. There wasn’t one,” she told Leno on Monday. “We did have sex, because we had a child, but we didn’t film the process of making the child, no.”

When Leno seemed disappointed, Anderson added, “I’m sure we could do something about that for your goodbye gift. Would you like that?”

“That would be a great goodbye gift,” he said.
