Republican congressional candidate Bill O’Brien on Thursday said that the Affordable Care Act was as bad as slavery laws in the United States.

“And what is Obamacare?” he said at an Americans for Prosperity event in Concord, New Hampshire. “It is a law as destructive to personal and individual liberty as the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 that allowed slave owners to come to New Hampshire and seize African Americans and use the federal courts to take them back to slave states.”

O’Brien’s comment was uploaded to YouTube by the group Granite State Progress.

O’Brien, a former New Hampshire House Speaker, announced in March that he planned to challenge freshman U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH).
