A 38-year-old Louisiana woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly putting her four-month old child in an ice chest along with a gas can.

According to WAFB-TV, a witness saw Jami Ranson put the baby into the chest with the gas can, then close the lid.

The Huffington Post reported that Ranson took no action while the child “continuously screamed,” before the witness pulled the baby out of the chest and called Baton Rouge police.

Ransom was charged with one count of child desertion and one count of possession of a Schedule 4 controlled dangerous substances after police discovered that Ranson had prescription anxiety medication.

“It’s hard to say if she had a prescription or not,” police spokesperson Don Copolla told WAFB. “Who knows what else she may have been going through to think to put her child in the ice chest and close the lid.”
