At least 13 children have been taken to the hospital with injuries as a swing-style ride at a three-day festival Sunday afternoon in Norwalk, Conn.

The swing ride in the Kids Cove section of the festival apparently lost power “causing the children on the ride to forcefully fall to the ground,” A post on the Facebook page for the Norwalk Police said Sunday. Most of the children sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from the scene, police said.

“Several were more seriously injured, including two which appeared to be the most serious,” police said. “The injured were transported to Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport hospitals.”

The state fire marshal is conducting an investigation, police said.

After an initial closure of rides, “The Connecticut State Police Fire and Emergency Investigative Unit is onsite and has authorized Stewart Amusements to reopen the other rides for the remainder of the evening,” the Norwalk Seaport Association said in a statement on its website Sunday.
