Civil rights leader and Princeton University professor Cornel West told an interviewer at a protest on Wednesday that he is “still uncertain” about the 9/11 “Truther” movement. West was speaking to reporter Joe Schoffstall of the Capitol City Project at the so-called “Million Muslim March.”
“You know, I just don’t know,” West said when Schoffstall asked if he believes that “9/11 was an inside job.”
“My hunch is that bin Laden certainly had something to do with it,” he continued, “So I try to listen and raise questions that allow them to engage in their investigation, but I haven’t spent as much time as they have. But at this point, I’m still uncertain.”
Truthers, he said, have expressed “a profound distrust in the government and a profound distrust in the government’s intelligence. And I have that distrust, too, so I’ve got to be open minded.”
Schaffstall asked West if he has a message for Fox News, which covered the march extensively.
“Quit lying,” West said. “Tell the truth! Tell the truth about poor people, tell the truth about working people. Get off the propaganda bandwagon and tell the truth. Absolutely.”
