Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) renewed her call for more comprehensive gun safety laws on Monday with a blistering statement released following a mass shooting on Monday at the Washington Navy Yard.

Politico reported that in a statement, Feinstein called the attack “one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons — including a military-style assault rifle — and kill many people in a short amount of time. When will enough be enough?”

Feinstein said in her statement that one of the weapons allegedly used in the attack was an AR-15, the type of assault rifle used in the December 2012 shooting attack at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. She introduced a proposal calling for bans on the sale and importation of those kinds of weapons in January 2013, but it was dropped from a larger gun safety bill two months later.

“Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country,” Feinstein said in her statement on Monday. “We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”
