An Arizona man was arrested over the weekend after police said that he beat his girlfriend because she was too sick to have sex with him.

According to The Arizona Republic, Mesa police said that 33-year-old Jose Perez assaulted his girlfriend after arriving home drunk on Sunday morning at around 7 a.m.

Perez threatened to kill the victim if she called the police, the woman reportedly told officers. After she pretended to fall asleep, she fled to a neighbor’s home to ask for help.

In an interview with investigators, Perez insisted that he had not fought with the woman, who he had been seeing for three months. He could not explain how her injuries occurred.

A police report said that the victim suffered an eye socket fracture and a fracture on the bridge of her nose. She was treated at Banner Desert Hospital.
