After the show aired a report on the beneficial effects of a low-carb diet, Robertson said he strongly disagreed with the purported health benefits of a high-fat, high-protein diet.
“The carbs are the fire that burns everything completely,” Robertson said. “Sooner or later it violates principles that God sent down.”
The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that carbohydrates should make up about half of daily calorie consumption because they boost energy and may protect against some types of disease and help control weight.
Robertson also answered a viewer question about whether Muslim butchers had ties to terrorist organizations.
“I’m seeing the ‘halal brand’ appear more and more on American products,” the viewer said. “What gives?”
Robertson explained that halal dealt primarily with the method of animal slaughter prescribed by Islamic law, comparing it to similar customs in Judaism.
“So far, no problems, like kosher – that’s OK,” Robertson said. “(But) our research shows and our team has discovered that a portion of all profits from these Halal butcheries is going to the Muslim Brotherhood, so it’s not a question of religion, it’s a question of where does the money go.”
His Christian Broadcasting Network reported in 2011 that one of this country’s halal certification organizations was Islamic Society of North American, which the report described as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the Holy Land Foundation terror investigation.
A judge later ruled that the government should not have labeled the group as an unindicted co-conspirator but had produced enough evidence to establish an association with the Islamic Association for Palestine and Hamas.
“If you buy halal food you’re sending money to the Brotherhood, and the Brotherhood in turn supports Hamas and, you know, Islamic jihadism – well, not that, but Hamas, particularly, and other radical organizations – that’s the damage,” Robertson said.
