A veteran TV news anchor has made news herself after she compared an actual shooting to the finale of TV’s “Breaking Bad.”

Joyce Evans, weekend anchor for Fox29, used her Twitter account to help promote Saturday night’s newscast about a shooting that killed one man and wounded five others.

“Thought “Breaking Bad” was hot last Sunday?” tweeted Evans. “@FOX29philly See who’s breakin’ bad in SW Philly leavin’ 6 people SHOT – Tonite at Ten!”

Within minutes, the post had been retweeted more than 2,500 times and drawn dozens of negative responses.

Evans was unapologetic, telling readers that she was serious about comparing the Philadelphia shooting to the AMC drama about a chemistry teacher who became a methamphetamine kingpin.

“Last tweet NOT AST ALL A JOKE,” she tweeted. “Very real life drama was the point as oppose to one that end on tv. That was my point.”

Evans also defended herself to her critics, saying they’d missed the point of her post.

Twitter users quickly turned #JoyceEvansTweets into a trending topic, concocting their own tasteless news teases based on television show tie-ins.

And some users went digging into Evans’ Twitter account to find other examples of actual #JoyceEvansTweets.

Evans is no stranger to Internet celebrity. A video blooper of her profane sign-off from a 1985 report while she worked at WCIX-TV in Miami was widely shared after it was posted online in 2011.

Her current employer has not yet said whether Evans will be disciplined for her tweet.
