Rep. Jeffrey Duncan (R-SC) on Thursday said the United States had strayed too far from God.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today in honor of a gentleman who is with me in the Capitol. He was the high school valedictorian at Liberty High School,” he said, according to the Congressional record.

“This summer, during his valedictorian address, he ripped up his approved speech and delivered The Lord’s Prayer in defiance of the school district’s decision to no longer include prayer at graduation.”

“This is someone that reminds us that we as a Nation need to return to God. I am thankful for him and the inspiration of his generation,” Duncan concluded.

This summer, valedictorian Roy Costner IV ripped up his speech during his graduation ceremony and instead delivered the Lord’s prayer.
