Fox News host Shepard Smith found himself being absolutely shocked on Monday when he found out what a 72-year-old man had to do to survive after being lost in the California wilderness for 19 days.

As Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher explained, Gene Penaflor was forced to shoot squirrels and even drink his own blood and eat his own scabs until he was rescued late last week.

“Eating his own scabs and drinking his own blood,” Smith repeated with a disgusted look.

Gallagher tried to change the subject to the “delicious” squirrel legs, but Smith couldn’t get his mind off the idea of eating scabs.

“I don’t know that I’m going to find out about that,” the Fox News host said. “Scab eating, huh.”
