It turns out new co-host Jenny McCarthy may be even more unpopular with fans of “The View” than former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who left the show this summer for Fox & Friends.

RadarOnline reported that a production source said the 40-year-old former Playboy Playmate has caused viewers to tune out of the ABC morning show since her Sept. 9 debut.

“The data has revealed that she is FAR more off-putting than Elisabeth,” the source told RadarOnline.

So far, the ratings data show only a minor dip in total viewership and in the coveted women ages 25-54 demographic.

The Wrap reported that “The View” has averaged 3.023 million total viewers in the first three weeks of its new season, compared to 3.239 million in the same period the previous season.

But its closest competitor, CBS’ “The Talk,” has made gains in the primary demographic and in total viewership, averaging 2.80 million total viewers in its first week of the season.

“The Talk” slipped a bit the following week, to 2.72 million viewers, but those ratings were still 23 percent higher than the previous season.
That could prompt Barbara Walters to make a change, the source said.

The 84-year-old Walters, who’s retiring from broadcasting next summer, “isn’t looking for a replacement for Jenny yet, she is obsessed with ratings and the longevity of the show, so Jenny needs to turn it around or she will be gone,” the source said.

The source seemed certain that Walters would buy out McCarthy’s contract if necessary, but for now would try to adjust her performance to be more appealing to the show’s viewers.

McCarthy was a controversial pick for the show due to her views on vaccines, which she claims caused her son’s autism, in disagreement with scientific evidence.

Hasselbeck, whose conservative views irritated many View viewers, has drawn attention recently at her new gig by suggesting that the recent Navy Yard mass shooting showed a need for a video game registry and for calling air conditioning “the ugly side” of welfare.
