Two teenage girls were caught carrying a dead fetus in a bag while being questioned for possibly shoplifting at a Victoria’s Secret store in New York City, WCBS-TV reported on Thursday.

After being stopped by a security guard, one of the two 17-year-old girls, identified as Tiana Rodriguez, reportedly said that the remains were the result of a miscarriage she suffered on Wednesday. Officials said the fetus had not matured past five or six months.

The guard subsequently called the police. Rodriguez was taken to Bellevue Hospital, and both she and Francis Estevez were charged by police with petty larceny and possession of stolen property. An autopsy to determine whether the fetus’ cause of death is expected to be released by the local Medical Examiners’ Office on Friday.
