Two people have died and two others were left injured following a shooting at Sparks Middle School in Nevada on Monday morning, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.

Police said one of the dead includes the shooter, who is believed to be a student. The other person killed was a teacher.

Spokeswoman Angela Rambo of Renown Regional Medical Center told the Associated Press that two boys are also in critical condition.

Police said the shooter appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“I thought it was a firecracker at first, but the student was pointing a gun at the teacher after the teacher told him to put it down, and the student fired a shot at the teacher and the teacher fell and everybody ran away,” one student told the Reno Gazette Journal.

Students were evacuated to a nearby elementary school.

“We came flying down here to get our kids,” Mike Fiorica, whose nephew attends the school, told the Associated Press. “… It’s really chaotic. You can imagine how parents are feeling. You don’t know if your kid’s OK.”
