An Alabama man admitted Thursday to trying to hire a man he believed was a Ku Klux Klansman to kill his neighbor, who is black and a registered sex offender.
According to court documents, 29-year-old Allen Wayne Densen Morgan told an undercover FBI agent that he wanted to see the neighbor “hung from a tree like he is an animal” and have his genitals cut off.
Morgan, of Munford, Ala., said he believed the neighbor had raped his wife sometime in August.
FBI agents said Morgan knew his neighbor had been arrested in 2008 and charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old victim.
Authorities said Morgan told agents that he’d tried to “force a confrontation” with his neighbor Aug. 22 by firing “multiple rounds of ammunition” at him on the street outside their homes.
Agents said the man ran away, and Morgan assumed he must be guilty of raping his wife because the neighbor did not try to stand his ground or reason with him.
An undercover FBI agent called Morgan a short time later, identified himself as a Klansman and asked him whether he wanted to “murder” his neighbor.
Morgan told the agent about the shooting incident and arranged to meet the agent Aug. 25 to pay him to kill the neighbor, offering detailed plans for how it should be done.
“You’re a hunting man right?” Morgan said, according to investigators. “I want him hung from a tree and gutted and left him hung in that tree. … That’s how I want him to die. Die a slow and painful death.”
Authorities said Morgan told the undercover agent that he and his family agreed with the plot to murder their neighbor, adding that his father- and mother-in-law wanted to “dynamite the entire block.”
Morgan met the agent at a motel and told two undercover agents he would pay them to kill his neighbor but confessed he had no money, so he offered his watch and necklace and promised them a gun.
Talking Points Memo reported that a Facebook page apparently belonging to Morgan was offered a Play Station 3 and some video games for sale Aug. 22 for $160 in an apparent attempt to raise money for his plot.
Morgan was arrested after the meeting and confessed that he’d wanted to hire hitmen to kill his neighbors.
He was charged with one count of causing someone to use interstate facilities and travel with the intent to commit murder-for-hire.
