Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right National Front (FN) party, became the latest target of a trademark topless protest by feminist group Femen during a visit to the town of Fougères in Brittany on Saturday.

Le Pen, in town to meet local FN party members, was greeting Fougères residents at the town’s market when, just inches from the visitng politician, two Femen activists emerged from the crowd and pulled off their tops, shouting “Marine, repent!” – a slogan also written across their torsos.

The activists then switched to a chant of “Sextremism, not fascism,” as they were pulled away by Le Pen’s security team.

Femen later took to Twitter to continue to voice their opposition to Le Pen.

“Go on Marine, enough bullshit! Join us on the right path, that of feminism, not fascism,” said one post on the group’s French Twitter account.

“Stop the xenophobia, the homophobia and the hatred,” added another.

Femen’s decision to target Le Pen comes at a time when the FN is enjoying a surge in popularity, with a recent poll showing that 24 percent of French voters said they intended to vote for the party in next year’s European elections.

This figure puts the group ahead of the two traditional mainstream parties in France – the centre-right Union for a Popular Movement and the governing Socialist party – who scored 22 percent and19 percent respectively.

It is not the first time Femen has targeted France’s far right, however. In May this year a number of the group’s activists interrupted a rally organised by far-right groups to commemorate Joan of Arc in central Paris.
