In a radio interview, longtime anti-LGBT crusader Peter LaBarbera disparaged “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts’ decision to come out of the closet, called transgender people “satanic” and called the “homosexual so-called marriage movement” a force of “evil” designed to “corrupt children.”

“Right Wing Watch” reported that the interview took place on Vic Eliason of Voice of Christian Youth (VCY) America’s radio show on Thursday. Eliason joined in on the bigoted rant, calling transgender people “circus freaks” and agreeing with LaBarbera that “Satan” is working through them.

“Every coming out is a tragedy,” LaBarbera — the director of the group Americans for the Truth About Homosexuality — lamented.

“And how sad that our First Lady and the White House in general and President Obama as well, all celebrate homosexuality,” he continued, referring to a statement of support by First Lady Michelle Obama on the social medium Twitter.

Later in the interview, he cribbed from former President Ronald Reagan, calling the push for marriage equality an “evil empire.”

“The homosexual so-called marriage movement is evil,” he said. “We need to do what Reagan did with communism, we need to come right out there and say: this movement attaching the God-ordained good of marriage to an abomination which is homosexuality, calling that marriage, that’s evil, it’s an evil movement.”

Furthermore, he said, “the homosexual so-called marriage movement has become a huge platform to corrupt children.”

The two men reserved their most heinous statements, however, for transgender people.

“It just gets worse and worse, Vic,” LaBarbera said. “Transgender advocacy are people who believe that their biological sex, male or female, doesn’t match what they feel. I’ll tell you what Vic, Satan really works through feelings, doesn’t he?”

“He sure does,” agreed Eliason.

Later, Eliason compared transgender men and women to freaks in a circus side-show.

“You know, Peter, years and years ago the old fashioned circus used to have a display in some kind of a cage or a display factor that had a ‘bearded lady’ as a freak,” he said.

“Today we don’t even have to worry about that, it will be happening in your department stores, it will be happening in the public school, the issue of cross-dresses and transvestites and all of this type of thing certainly is what you’re talking about,” he said.

Voice of Christian America is a virulently anti-LGBT, anti-choice right-wing Christian militant organization with ties to the far-right sovereign citizen and Christian dominionist movements, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

In the past, Eliason has accused LGBT people of bestiality, said that LGBT Christians are possessed by Satan and that mass acceptance of the “gay lifestyle” will, of course, bring about “the downfall of American society.”

LaBarbera is known to many LGBT activists as “Porno Pete” because he has admitted to keeping a huge trove of gay male pornography for “research” purposes. His job at one point was to attend LGBT days at Disney World, San Francisco LGBT Pride and any events involving gay staffers of the George W. Bush administration, again for “research.”

He is also known for taking annual “intelligence-gathering” trips to Chicago’s International Mr. Leather competition, a yearly gay BDSM pageant.
