A gun-wielding Florida man was taken to the hospital by police after a Taser dart pierced his eyeball. According to the Orlando Sentinel, officers used the stun gun on James Rodriguez, 22, outside a sports bar in downtown Orlando called One Eyed Jack’s.

Police were called to the scene on Dec. 8, when Rodriguez became belligerent and began to threaten people with a Glock pistol. When ordered to drop the weapon, Rodriguez refused.

Rather than use a firearm to attempt to subdue the suspect, Officer Jason Portilla fired the Taser. The stun gun discharged 50,000 volts of electricity into Rodriguez’ body for five seconds, knocking him to the ground.

“Rodriguez had removed the gun from his waistband and was holding it up at chest level, parallel to his body,” quoted the Sentinel from Portilla’s incident report. “As a result of Rodriguez turning his body…one of the Taser prongs struck Rodriguez in the right eye. The other Taser prong struck…his left side.”

Rodriguez was admitted to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and resisting arrest.
