Marijuana should not be legalized because it causes flashbacks and other impairments, according to retired neurosurgeon and Fox News contributor Ben Carson.

“We have known for a long time that people who engage in such activities can have flashbacks months and years after usage,” he told Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg during an interview on Tuesday.

Carson said marijuana also impaired cognitive function at the time of use.

“So why would we throw into the mix something else that can impair people? We have enough impaired people already.”

On January 1, Colorado became the first state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana Washington state also has legalized marijuana, but the law will not be implemented until several months from now.
