Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham railed against Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Tuesday for not using the term “illegal aliens” to describe undocumented immigrants, Media Matters reported.
“Why do we have a Supreme Court justice whose allegiance obviously goes to her immigrant family background and not to the U.S. Constitution?” Ingraham said. “So we have no rule of law. We are going to pick and choose who has to follow the law in the United States.”
“To call them ‘illegal aliens’ seemed and does seem insulting to me,” Sotomayor was quoted as saying.
In decrying Sotomayor’s “immigrant family background,” Ingraham ignored the fact that, as an American of Puerto Rican descent, Sotomayor is already a U.S. citizen as covered by the Jones-Shafroth Act of 1917.
“So why is Dinesh D’Souza, then, being targeted?” Ingraham asked, revisiting a popular conspiracy theory. “Why is he being targeted? Why does that law apply?”
Federal prosecutors have said that campaign contribution laws apply to D’Souza because he allegedly set up a scheme that would lead to him contributing $20,000 to an unidentified candidate, far above legal limits.
