A violent exchange between two inmates at the Cass County jail in Fargo, North Dakota was sparked by one inmate’s intentional flatulence and his use of a racial slur. According to Forgo’s InForum.com, the incident took place on Monday in the jail’s medium security unit.
Ahmed Nur Adan, 27, reportedly punched Timothy Lowseth, 26, because Lowseth walked into Adan’s cell and passed gas on multiple occasions. When Adan, who is African-American, asked Lowseth why, Lowseth responded with a racial slur.
According to an incident report from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Adam struck Lowseth in the face, knocking him unconscious and causing his head to get gashed on the cell floor.
InForum.com said that Lowseth “was left lying on the ground with a confused look on his face and a front tooth missing.”
Lowseth was taken to Sanford Medical Center’s emergency room for treatment. He told detectives that Adan challenged him to a fight in a cell out of the view of corrections personnel. When he refused to fight, Lowseth said, Adan attacked him.
Adan was charged with aggravated assault, a Class C felony.
