An Arizona police officer was injured during a confrontation with a man who was apparently high on psychedelic drugs.

Police were called Saturday night to a Phoenix home, where a man had been reportedly yelling in the front yard.

When police arrived, they said 29-year-old Bobby Keen approached them and asked for help.

But investigators said when the officer stepped forward, Keen told him he was “just kidding,” and punched him in the face.

“And, at that point, unfortunately, the fight was on,” said Officer James Holmes, of Phoenix police.

Officers twice shocked Keen with a Taser stun gun, but he removed the wires and managed to run inside the house and into a bedroom.

Holmes said additional officers arrived, and they approached the home’s door with a K-9 unit.

“Initially, he refuses to come out and when he does come out, he approaches and attacks the officers again,” Holmes said. “At that point he (was) actually shot with four rounds of a stun gun in order to get this man subdued and it didn’t work.”

Keen fled back into the house and hid in a bedroom, where police found him after entering the home.

Keen’s girlfriend, who was home at the time, told police that he had eaten psychedelic mushrooms earlier in the day.

The injured officer, whose name was not released, suffered a broken hand and an eye injury.

Keen was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and will face multiple charges.

“You’ve got an individual who’s out by himself just yelling and screaming for no apparent reason and neighbors start to call and thank goodness none of those neighbors actually went out to see what was wrong with him or they might have ended up in a confrontation with him,” Holmes said.
