A Texas GOP political action committee will be shut down on Thursday after being denounced by Democrats and disavowed by gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott over its name, the Texas Tribune reported.
Allen Blakemore, a political consultant based out of Houston, confirmed that the “Boats ‘N Hoes” PAC, originally registered by his firm’s bookkeeper, would be shuttered. The title was reportedly inspired by the film Step Brothers. Blakemore also serves as senior strategist for state Sen. Dan Patrick’s (R) campaign for the lieutenant governor’s office.
Nowacki created the group on April 1 and named himself treasurer after filing the required paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission. It did not file any fundraising reports before its name became public knowledge.
The San Antonio Express-News reported that Blakemore also did consulting work for current GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott (R) on eight different campaigns between 1991 and 2004. Abbott is currently running against state Sen. Wendy Davis (D).
“Greg Abbott’s consultants are clearly taking their cues from Abbott himself, who campaigns with an admitted sexual predator of underage girls, who pays women less than men for doing the same work and who forms his education plan with the ideas of a man like Charles Murray, who argues women are inferior to men,” Davis campaign spokesperson Rebecca Acuña told the Express-News, alluding to Abbott backer Ted Nugent. “The language used by Greg Abbott’s consultants is offensive to every Texas mother and daughter — and the men who love them — and has no place in politics.”
“The terminology used in the name of this PAC is reprehensible and Greg Abbott denounces any person or entity that uses such offensive language,” Abbott spokesperson Matt Hirsch was quoted as saying.
