A 30-year-old Lake City, FL man was charged with multiple felonies Tuesday stemming from a Saturday attack in which he fired a gun into a crowd of people, injuring one woman and striking several vehicles.
On Tuesday, April 29, Henderson’s two children and a group of neighbor kids at the Windsong Apartments were involved in a water fight. Henderson heatedly argued with other adults about the incident and the dispute escalated to a fistfight.
Henderson left the scene, then returned with a handgun, which he threatened the other residents with. Police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the weapon was gone.
This past Saturday, a group of Windsong residents were standing in a breezeway at around 11:00 p.m. when Henderson approached the group and opened fire.
Leah M. Depoe of Gainesville was struck in both legs as the rest of the adults scattered or dove for cover. Bullets also struck several vehicles parked at the scene.
First Coast News reported that Henderson threw the gun into a storm drain and fled into Building No. 5. Paramedics arrived on the scene and police surrounded the building, ordering Henderson to come out and surrender, which he eventually did.
Depoe was transported to a hospital in Gainesville with non-life threatening injuries.
According to the Sun, “Henderson was charged with aggravated assault, firing a weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was being held on Tuesday at the Columbia County Detention Center on no bond.”
