A Virginia man surrendered to police over the weekend after he allegedly shot his brother in the face.

According to WWBT, Chesterfield police said that a 26-year-old brother went to “check on” his younger, 23-year-old brother at the mobile home where he was living with his parents at around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The older brother said that he had taken a pistol because of past arguments with the younger brother, and information that the younger brother had fired a weapon inside the mobile home.

The 26-year-old brother told police that he shot the younger brother in the face and in the neck after he flashed a gun. He claimed that the shooting had been in self defense.

“I was in my den… I heard gunshots everywhere,” Neighbor Nancy Reynolds told WWBT. “We saw the ambulance, and the man being brought out of a stretcher.”

“The yelling, the arguing, door slamming… sounded like punching of walls,” neighbor Angel Fuller recalled. “I don’t know what it was…just loud banging of noises.”

After calling 911, the older brother waited for EMS crews to arrive. Police said that the 23-year-old shooting victim coughed up the bullet that had passed through his nose and spit it out while they were interviewing him.

Police said that the older brother was released without being charged, but the investigation was continuing. A $1,000 cash reward was being offered for tips that assist law enforcement in the case. Anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
