Fox News host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Thursday seemed to side with an anti-gay baker, suggesting that a court order forcing him to stop discriminating against LGBT people was not “freedom.”
Last week, the Colorado’s Civil Rights Commission ordered Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips to sell wedding cakes to same-sex couples, and to provide anti-discrimination training to his staff. The commission had ruled in December that Phillips had violated a gay couple’s civil rights when his company refused to sell them a cake for religious reasons.
During an interview on Fox News, Hasselbeck asserted that Colorado was “cracking down on religious freedom” by ending discrimination against same-sex couples.
Phillips explained to the Fox News host that he had chosen to stop making wedding cakes altogether this year because his business could survive baking other items.
“Keeping going strong there,” Hasselbeck said as the interview concluded.
“Is that freedom? And is that violation?” she wondered.
