Conservative radio host Glenn Beck on Wednesday revealed to his listeners that a supernatural power had prompted his witch hunt which eventually led to the firing of then-White House environmental adviser Van Jones.

On his Fox News television show in 2009, Beck had launched a series of attacks against Jones for being a “self-professed communist,” a claim which PolitiFact determined was false. But the daily coverage of Jones eventually took its toll, and Jones resigned from his White House job.

Beck went on to blame Jones and the now-defunct community organizing group ACORN for the failure of the levees in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

On Wednesday, Beck explained that his investigation into Jones had all been because of divine inspiration.

“I don’t know how we figured out Van Jones, I really don’t know how we figured out Van Jones,” he said. “That was really — that was not from man.”

“Because I didn’t even know who he was, and there was two conversations happening in my office. I have two producers talking about Van Jones, and they were getting ready to talk to me about something, and I was talking to another two producers. And as I’m listening and I’m engaged in that, I just hear the name ‘Van Jones,’ and I said to those producers, ‘Stop.’ I turn around and said, ‘What was the name you just said?’ They said, Van Jones.”

Beck continued: “And I said, ‘I don’t know anything about him, but look into Katrina, look into New Orleans. There’s something to him and New Orleans. I don’t know what it is.’ And they went off. And that’s how we started the Van Jones thing.”
