SEATTLE (Reuters) – A man accused of killing a Seattle Pacific University student and wounding two others in a shooting last week has been charged with murder and attempted murder, a county prosecutor said on Tuesday.

Aaron Ybarra, 26, has been held without bail since the shootings on Thursday and has confessed to police detectives that he was the gunman, according to prosecutors. Ybarra’s attorney has said “significant and longstanding mental health issues” were a factor in the shooting spree.

If convicted, Ybarra faces a sentence of 69 to 86 years, but King County prosecutor Dan Satterberg said he would seek a life sentence because of the broader damage the shooting caused to the community.
