A Pittsburgh LGBT rights group has asked police to review an officer’s attack Sunday on a woman during the city’s PrideFest.

A cell phone video of the incident posted online shows the officer grab the woman, identified as Ariel Lawther, by the hair and punch her several times in the torso during an arrest.

The circumstances leading to the arrest were clear from the video.

The officer said he broke up a fight between Lawther and a man near the parade route.

The officer, whose name was not released, said in the arrest report that he had previously asked Lawther, who is wearing rainbow socks, “not to be so physically offensive toward the demonstrators.”

He said Lawther apologized after she was placed in handcuffs.

“I did not see you were a cop,” Lawther told the officer. “I am sorry I hit you.”

The Delta Foundation, which helped organize the annual PrideFest event, asked police and city officials to review the incident.

“We’re requesting that some investigation go deeper,” said spokeswoman Christine Bryan.

Lawther remains held at the Allegheny County Jail on a variety of charges, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
