A Florida police officer mistakenly fired his rifle Wednesday morning inside a courthouse in Miami.

The officer was demonstrating a scenario to a judge during a training exercise when he accidentally fired a single shot from his department-issued AR-15.

The bullet struck the floor, leaving a hole the size of a fingertip in the carpet near a hallway sofa, but no one was injured.

A sign in the lobby of the Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse, where the family court division is housed, warns law enforcement officers to secure their firearms when visiting on personal business.

But police said the officer, whose name was not released, did not violate any laws or policies because he was taking part in official training business.

The incident remains under investigation by the Miami-Dade police department’s internal affairs.
