Dana Loesch, who hosts an Internet show for Glenn Beck’s The Blaze, reacted to the defeat of Tea Party-backed Republican candidate Chris McDaniel by claiming that incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) had scared black voters with a metaphorical Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hood.

On Tuesday night, Cochran defied polling to come from behind and defeat his more-conservative challenger in a runoff after being bested by McDaniel in the primary earlier this month. Cochran did it by campaigning in black communities, and by increasing his turnout by more than 38,000 votes.

Cochran’s appeal to African-Americans was aided by McDaniel’s history of speaking to the neo-Confederate group Sons of Confederate Veterans, and his promise to stop paying income taxes if the Congress ever authorized reparations for slavery.

On her Wednesday show, Loesch accused Cochran of foul play because he had used McDaniel’s history to get out the black vote.

“McDaniel said that he’s going to mount a legal challenge to the voter irregularities, namely the dirty tricks used by Cochran’s camp to get into Mississippi’s black community,” Loesch reported. “This may mark the first time, by the way, that Thad Cochran have ever electioneered in a black community in Mississippi. I would hope that this isn’t a gimmick, and it actually mainstay of political practice. But, I mean, this is Mississippi politics, I’m not hopeful.”

“How they politicked is more important than they did at the moment unfortunately,” she continued. “And Cochran, doing the political equivalent of shaking a Klan hood out in the streets to scare up votes is really unbecoming of anybody fit to hold elected office in this country.”

“I absolutely do think his tactics merit investigation,” Loesch concluded. “But I do not think it’s going to change the results.”
