An extreme right-wing radio host is calling upon his listeners to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border crossing south of San Diego on July 5, 2014.
Pete Santilli urged them to celebrate what is being called “Cinco de Julio,” which he hopes will “shut down the flood of immigrants seeking asylum in the U.S.A. at the encouragement of the now impeachable President Barack Obama.”
“This event,” he continued, “has the potential to become one of the most patriotic and successful events in our nation’s history, and all American families are encouraged to attend.”
“The objective,” Santilli wrote, “is to create a traffic jam of epic proportions to shut down the U.S. Mexico border — to stop the flow of immigrants.”
The event is linked to a broader campaign called Operation Border Closure, which asks that “all able-bodied militia members to converge on the Laredo sector of the Texas/Mexico border.”
Santilli also hopes his event will call attention to the cause of U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who is being held in a Mexican prison after he accidentally crossed into the country with three registered guns.
“We must,” he wrote, “DEMAND that Obama have Sgt Tahmooressi released and delivered to the border on July 5th, 2014, or We The People will stop the flow of commerce and immigrants until he recognizes his unlawful conduct.”
“You get a Constitution in your left breast pocket, and you say that, ‘We run this freaking place!’” he said. “And you get ready to get in your car and get to the freaking border, so that you can save your country!”
Last year, Santilli attempted to shut down the United States federal government with his “Ride For The Constitution” event. Virginia state police said that the event drew approximately 30 commercial and 15 pickup trucks, but that traffic conditions “were basically normal” for weekday traffic in wet conditions.
On his radio program today, Santilli claimed that he only needs six truckers to park their vehicles in the lanes in order to achieve his goals for “Cinco de Julio.”
