Former Republican Texas Rep. Ron Paul warned this week that U.S. hospitals were “under siege” by immigrants, and he said it was only going to get worse if President Barack Obama refused to take action.
In an interview on Wednesday, Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg asked Paul about the “huge crises” of undocumented children coming into the U.S.
“The health thing strikes me as being very major,” Paul noted. “I am, I’m very concerned about this because we’ve already had many problems in Texas and Arizona where individuals come over.”
The libertarian Republican said that his solution to the immigration problem was to stop giving people “free everything,” like “free medical care and free education.”
“But our hospitals had already been under siege by immigrants,” Paul added. “And with these thousands — tens of thousands, who knows how many — and when you put them all together this is what you can expect. You’re going to see some very serious health problems.”
Malzberg agreed that immigrant children were dangerous because “we don’t know their health history.”
“We don’t know if they’re vaccinated to our standards,” the Newsmax host said. “They probably aren’t in many cases.”
“I’m hearing fears of all kinds of — hepatitis, TB, ebola,” Malzberg continued. “I mean, how do we keep a lid on all this?”
“No, you’re not going to be able to,” Paul lamented. “All I know is we spend way too much money worrying about the borders between Syria and Iraq, and those places, and we don’t seem to have any policies that would be more sensible here at home.”
Fears that immigrant children coming into the United State might have ebola was mentioned last week by the Family Security Matters website, which cited “poisons like cyanide, toxins like ricin, viruses like ebola or bacteria such as anthrax” as reasons to secure the border.
The conservative conspiracy website World Net Daily expanded on the idea in a column earlier this week.
“Other diseases like dengue and Ebola virus also may be in this wave of illegals, since people are coming from Central and South America, the Middle East and West Africa,” columnist Elizabeth Lee Vliet warned. “The extent of the threat appears to be unknown, or is being kept secret. We do know that the federal government advertised in January for ‘escorts’ for up to 65,000 unaccompanied minors, indicating this flood of illegals was orchestrated.”
