HOUSTON (Reuters) – Several people were shot to death on Wednesday in the Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said, with local media reporting five people killed.

The Houston Chronicle, citing law enforcement officials, reported seven people in all were shot and that three children and two adults among them were fatally wounded in the incident in a residential area in Spring, about 25 miles (40 km) north of Houston.

The two surviving victims were airlifted to area hospitals, local media reports said.

Police appear to have cornered the suspected gunman a few miles from where the shootings took place, reports said.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it would provide further details at a briefing later on Wednesday.
