Don’t let this man anywhere near the economy

OK. I opened a can of whoopass on McSame a bit ago for being completely computer illiterate, but his cluelessness on the following matter defies description — why would we want this man to run the country? Look at this exchange with the Orange County Register’s Martin Wicksol when asked about the spiraling price of gas and its effect on our economy:

WICKSOL: When was the last time you pumped your own gas and how much did it cost?

MCCAIN: Oh, I don’t remember. Now there’s Secret Service protection. But I’ve done it for many, many years. I don’t recall and frankly, I don’t see how it matters.

Think Progress:

McCain’s cluelessness about gas prices is compounded by the fact that he is clueless about what to do about it. He is promoting a gas tax holiday for drivers because he claims to understand “Americans are hurting.” It will provide “a little psychological boost,” McCain said of his plan.

In reality, his gas tax holiday would be worth a mere 60 cents a day for Americans and would be a boon for oil companies and foreign oil-producing nations. It would drive up the deficit.

Well, maybe an inkling of how $2.00/gal vs. $4.25/gallon might affect the economy might be a useful perspective to have as it has an impact on, oh, the little people, you know the ones who actually pay taxes, as opposed to McSame, who’s a tax deadbeat

McSame says our taxes are too high and he wants to preserve the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, right? I guess none of that really matters to him anyway since he doesn’t bother paying them on his beachfront condo. Why does John McCain hate America?

Newsweek is set to publish a highly embarrassing report on Sen. John McCain, revealing that the McCains have failed to pay taxes on their beach-front condo in La Jolla, California, for the last four years and are currently in default, The Huffington Post has learned.

Under California law, once a residential property is in default for five years, it can be sold at a tax sale to recover the unpaid taxes for the taxpayers.

BTW, this is one of the SEVEN homes John and Cindy McCain own. What else is the MSM going to find?

John McCain: Alan Keyes With Sunblock

By Jesse Taylor

Via Shakesville, Grover “Not the Muppet” Norquist on Friday: Norquist dropped by The Times’ Washington bureau today and, as part of his negative critique of Obama’s liberal stances on economic issues and other matters, he termed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee “John Kerry with a tan.” Now, given that “so and so with a tan” is usually used to describe someone putting an inauthentically ethnic (black or brown) face on something considered “white”, I’ll accept…

PUMAs are Swiftboats

By Amanda Marcotte

I’ve been suspicious from the beginning about the existence of “PUMAs”: Female Clinton supporters who are so bitter about her loss that they will throw equal pay, reproductive rights, the environment, and a chance at peace under the bus to get their revenge by voting for McCain. I’m skeptical even…

The Unbeatable Banzuke: Senate

By Jesse Taylor

I’ve been doing this long enough to remember back when filibustering was a tactic designed to obstruct the proper business of the Senate, a controversial Democratic practice that raised serious constitutional questions. Luckily, we’ve evolved to the point where it’s everyone’s fault. The Senate went home yesterday for the Fourth…

Ann Richards: He-Man Woman Hater

By Jesse Taylor

“Feminists” are up in arms about Obama’s latest assault on women, an insult so grave that I wonder if he hasn’t permanently ruined all chance at winning the general: This is from the transcript of the appearance: “[B]ecause of the campaign that Hillary Clinton waged, my daughters and all of…

Arizona Senate passes measure to put marriage amendment on ballot – again

By pams

(UPDATE: I have added a ton of information on the vote over at my pad.) This shows you the consistency and tireless bigotry of the far right — they simply will not stop trying to prevent LGBTs from obtaining full civil equality. They scraped up enough bigots to do the…

Reaganing The Fuck Out Of This Shit

By Jesse Taylor

Kevin Drum wonders where McCain’s annoying habit of using “my friends” like a teenager uses the work “like” comes from. He initially picked it up during the primary when he was doing the whole “I’m Reagan 2.0″ thing: One of Reagan’s verbal flourishes was to interject the phrase “my friends”…

This violent phallus in your hands will not destroy the patriarchy

By Amanda Marcotte

Let me preface this by saying that on the issue of gun control, I’m often and unusually agnostic. I think pro-gun control people make a lot of intellectually dishonest arguments, such as when they deny that an armed citizenry would be a good thing to have against a tyrannical government,…

The Real Question Here

By Jesse Taylor

Sure, Avril Lavigne may be about to take over the most watched YouTube video spot of all time, but the real question is how this became number one. It’s like the video that your sheltered cousins watch to prove they actually do watch shit on the internet. Consider this your…
