James Cameron calls Glenn Beck ‘madman,’ ‘f**king a**hole’

Academy Award-winning director James Cameron lit into Glenn Beck during an appearance Tuesday, telling reporters that he thought Fox News host Glenn Beck was a “f–ing a–hole” for once labeling him the anti-Christ.

Cameron, director of Avatar, the highest-grossing film ever, also answered follow-up questions from the Hollywood Reporter in which he said the Fox News talker was “dangerous” and a “madman.”

Asked what he thought about Beck during a junket appearance in support of the “Avatar” home-video release, Cameron said: “Glenn Beck is a f—ing asshole. I’ve met him. He called me the anti-Christ, and not about ‘Avatar.’ He hadn’t even seen ‘Avatar’ yet. I don’t know if he has seen it.”

Cameron apparently was referring to Beck’s reaction to his 2007 documentary, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus,” which casts doubt on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and makes the case that the ancient Tomb of the Ten Ossuaries belonged to Jesus’ family. [At the time, Beck said, "Many people believe James Cameron officially has tossed his hat in the ring today and is officially running for anti-Christ."]

After blasting Beck, Cameron, surrounded by journalists inside a West Hollywood hillside mansion, seemed to reconsider: “I think, you know what, he may or may not be an asshole, but he certainly is dangerous, and I’d love to have a dialogue with him.”

What makes Beck dangerous, The Hollywood Reporter inquired?

“He’s dangerous because his ideas are poisonous,” Cameron answered. “I couldn’t believe when he was on CNN. I thought, what happened to CNN? Who is this guy? Who is this madman? And then of course he wound up on Fox News, which is where he belongs, I guess.”

Asked if he felt the right wing’s attacks against him were continuing, Cameron replied: “They’re not attacks. They’re just people ranting away, lost in their little bubbles of reality, steeped in their own hatred, their own fear and hatred. That’s where it all comes from. Let’s just call it out. Let’s have a public discussion. That’s what movies are supposed to do, you know. You can have a mindless entertainment film that doesn’t affect anybody. I wasn’t interested in that.”

Cameron is also the director of the hit films Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss.

  • Mr. Neutron

Everybody I know calls Beck a 'madman', 'dangerous' and a 'fucking asshole'.

“I couldn't believe when he was on CNN. I thought, what happened to CNN? Who is this guy? Who is this madman? And then of course he wound up on Fox News, which is where he belongs, I guess.”
    Exactly.

  • Scuby

    Bravo Cameron…Bravo!!

  • paddleman

Whatever Beck is (stooge, gatekeeper, etc), I'm getting sick and tired of the juvenile name-calling from both sides of the political spectrum. I hope it doesn't reflect a general degradation of the intelligence and maturity of the body politic – but I fear it does.

  • A A

Bravo, Bravissimo James Cameron: You got it right the first time….Glenn Beck is a number 1 A…..hole!…..This man is dangerous for his hate-mongering and outlandish venemous statements. More people need to call out Beck for his hate-filled spews…..

  • dennycrane

The “magical underwearing” tory and the “Church of Latter Day Scout-Diddliers” . Brilliant.

  • ccokz

I think its strange that the right shifted so far to the right. Its meanwhile becoming dillusional and I think its because Bush created a lot of problems u like to evade. I think Cameron was always pretty much for an overly clear perception in his movies despite his last film avatar perhaps. Of course its been fiction but the images were pretty much affecting. I think what Beck does attempt is in fact that he tries to sublime with his made up stuff.

  • Red5

Ya know paddleman, maturity and decorum is fine and all, but there comes a time when you just gotta call an asshole what he is- a fucking asshole. Today's politics are not your father's politics.

  • sandi2

It's not so strange when you realize that even the left has shifted to the right. Which makes the right calling Obama, a right of center politician, a socialist ridiculous. Kucinich is an example of what the left used to be but now is considered “far left” and “radical” when he is not. I, a libertarian socialist, is far left and radical and no politician in Washington today represents me.

  • S in PA

You are so right. Everyone conveniently forgets Reagan’s role in the downfall of the USA. He’s the one that started the entire mess.

  • S in PA

Nixon was a slimy crooked douchebag, but at least he signed the Environmental Protection Act. Nixon was better than Bush 1, just because of that. But, still, they both suck.

  • JPMP

Murdoch employs Beck and finanacially backed Cameron's film

Is that why Cameron “reconsidered” his comments/

  • CaptainHowdy

I work the film industry, and all I can say is that Cameron doesn't have such a nice reputation himself.

  • Anonymous

I see you get my sarcasm. Reagan was worse for the country than either of the two that even Republicans would agree were lousy. We now see clearly, as WJM51 points out, the harmful effects of his presidency.

  • Boneman

I wouldn’t say it all started with raygun. I think this country has, since it’s inception had to fight with the central bank and because of that…. many have fallen by the wayside protecting this country from foreign and domestic enemies. Perhaps it’s safe to say the final nail in the coffin happened in 1913 when woody boy (what a monumental DICK!!!!) signed the federal reserve act.

  • http://wwwmymoxxor.com/claw Christopher

    BRAVO!
Beck and his ILK have to be called out and exposed to the LIGHT!

  • gorielly

“…he thought Fox News host Glenn Beck was a “f–ing a–hole”…”

Cameron should not be flattering Beck!

  • Jim

He is a dangerous asshole. So what's new?

  • John

Yeah, but he's not just a dangerous asshole. He's a dangerous asshole who wears a Christmas sweater.

  • WJM51

You can thank Ronald Reagan for that divisiveness. He was the one who stood in front of us and told everyone in the country that it was your RIGHT to hate whoever you wanted. Never mind us coming together as a country, never mind us seeing each other as fellow CITIZENS, you have every right to hate whoever you want, fellow Americans all the more. At the time, we were at least TRYING To see ourselves as one country. Then RR told us that all the attempts were just stupid, go ahead and hate all you want. And since it's easier to separate and hate, that is what people did. You are just seeing the outcome of it, now. This is the ONLY way things could have turned out, just like with his Alzheimer's inspired economics system. It took 30 years for the shit to REALLY hit the fan, but here it is.

This is what happens if you let those who live by divide and conquer run things. Before long, you have nothing left, your countrymen won't talk to each other, hate runs rampant, and you have lost EVERYTHING that your country USED to be.

Believe me, the body politic is sick and twisted, and it was done on purpose. Look to the money, it ALWAYS tells you who was behind something.

  • margaretpoa

Stop with the false equivalencies paddleman. Calling somebody an asshole, (who obviously is BTW) isn't anywhere near the same as ranting about how Progressives are “Nazis” who are “Going to destroy America” and so forth. Besides, the right wing, led by Beck, have been attacking Cameron for weeks for having the temerity to make a successful movie with an ecology theme. That's it. That's their whole reason for suddenly despising him. I remember some of these same people using the Terminator movies as examples of what a “kick ass” country the United States is.

  • ed01

Beck is a big asshole, and crybaby who will take all his toys home when things don't go his way.

  • ed01

More like Murdoch wants a cut of the money the movie will make. Avatar, Titanic made money so Murdoch made money. Murdoch would throw his mom under the bus if there is profit to be made

  • margaretpoa

I honestly doubt it. Cameron is successful enough to write his own ticket. He doesn't need Murdoch anywhere nearly as much as Murdoch needs him. The returns on Avatar are probably the only Murdoch venture that' still in the black.

  • allenallen

Yeah? Well Cameron you just made the chief madman Rupert Murdock a pile of cash to continue doing exactly what you object to!

So you're doing what? Complaining about Murdock's and Ailes' attack dog, yet playing nice with them? Oh yes, your spin off of Terminator is on Fox! WTF James?

    (Love your movies though!)

  • qwerty

Don't forget madman. Glenn Beck is an asshole AND a madman.

  • rgriffsf

exposed to the light? Wouldn't he just burst into flames?

  • qwerty

That's all correct. There is no “left” in this country. It's all moved to the right. Today's “left” is yesterday's moderate Democrats.

  • qwerty

You ever notice how that asshole Bill O'Lielly can't use the word “left” without putting the word “far” in front of it.

Jesus, I hate that flaming pile of shit. He really is no better than Glenn Beck. Or Elizabeth Hasselbeck for that matter.

  • lourawlson

LOL, hey if the shoe fits….

  • qwerty

Dead-on accurate. Reagan was the worst president the country has ever had.

Until Bush, of course, but Bush was just a continuation of Reaganism.

  • qwerty

That doesn't surprise me. Those people probably all have ginormous egos. I'll bet it's a rare person who doesn't.

  • rgriffsf

unfortunately, the dumbing down of the electorate is well on its way. Cuts in education have consequences in the long term. I would venture to say that most of the people who agree with Beck and his type are uneducated. Although there are some that are educated they have less than honorable motives for watching him. Remember, these people that follow the Right are hurt more by the Right than the Left. They simply believe that the Left is evil and that Right is correct in pointing it out. Neither side is innocent. However, it is amazing to me how even a moderately educated person could be duped by Beck's BS. They don't seem to want to know what the truth is. Ignorance is bliss may be true I guess.

  • rhetoricus

Cameron, you've just insulted millions of f**king a-holes.

  • allenallen

Cameron seems like a big fish to us. Compared to Murdock (with his world media empire), Cameron is a minnow… a tiny, tiny minnow.

Now that I write that… for the Fox News [sic] folks (Owned by the biggest “media” company ever!) to continually complain about “the media,” and for the common person to fall for that transparent of a propaganda ploy… wow!

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/PTC5NJKYIEODVO5ZDTLCO2TCWM Neville R

That's the thing: they loved him when he made The Terminator-simply because they loved fellow GOP'er Arnold. Of course, they forgot that The Terminator and its movie sequels are all critical of the military industrial complex as exemplified by Skynet-a detail that skipped their minds completely! They also love him for True Lies as well-heck, that's all they love him for! But Avatar? Oh noes, now he's peddling Satanism! These people are all BOFG's (Bunch Of F***ing Goofs.)

  • when_the_whip_comes_down

And if we recall one of the buzz words of the day was states rights.
If we would have educated ourselves as to the history states rights, their agenda would have been exposed. States rights was a term for the advocacy for the confederacy or slavery that popped up from John C. Calhoun, Jackson's vice president. He was a Jesuit as was Lincoln's assassin. Jackson dissolved the central bank shedding the parasitic interest paid on national debt and Lincoln fought off the interests of those who were to benefit from a broken union by printing money that would be debit free.
So you see that it was the bankers that were behind the whole slavery issue and the divide and concur method of hatred.
The Bu$h family are bankers and were behind the installation of Regan.

  • friendlyphil

It's actually an insult to assholes everywhere.

  • dickerson3870

RE: he [Cameron] thought Fox News host Glenn Beck was a “f–ing a–hole”
MY COMMENT: I have created a new word – ignoranus – to describe Glenn Beck and his ilk.

  • terrybr

Calling Glen Beck a F**King A**Hole and Mad Man is an insult to all the a**h***s and madmen everywhere!!

  • kiboshki

Heh, if only it was just his mom.

With his irresposibly unbalanced media conglomerates, Murdoch has thrown the whole damn English-speaking world under the bus.

  • lucky

there are 2 kinds of 'left' in the reich-wing authoritarian world:
    'far left' and
    'radical leftist'
Well, actually there is only 1: 'radical leftist'…

  • HurlyBurly

That's a perfect summary of Beck.
I wonder what Cameron would think of a news outlet that runs dozens of features on what Beck says every week. What sort of news outlet would give Beck 20% of their headlines while they neglect their duty to report on real news?

The story about Obama signing ridiculous anti abortion paperwork today is buried, and closed to comments. raw wants you to throw mud at Beck instead, and wants you to forget all about Obama doing his Bush impersonation with this extremist right wing abortion signing statement.

  • H.P. Loathecraft

    With exceptions (raises hand)

  • H.P. Loathecraft

I agree. This precedes Reagan by decades but Raygun and Thatcher amped it up a few notches for certain. When FDR was promoting the new deal, the wingnuts went apoplectic.

  • damnadamzama

    Glenn Beck smokes pole.

  • damixaustex

“Cameron seems like a big fish to us. Compared to Murdock (with his world media empire), Cameron is a minnow… a tiny, tiny minnow. “

I don't quite agree with your cipherin'.

Murdoch seems big to us because his guy Roger Ailes intends to influence our current political discourse, and Murdoch wants to play both sides of manufactured issues. Murdoch does the same thing in a handful of countries.

Cameron's anti-war war flick, on the other hand, has already influenced the hearts and minds of a generation the world over.

  • damixaustex

    Here, here. Well put.
Family Values was about a model, idyllic family perceived by some people who saw it as a way to gain more power and deflect the public's attention. It was self centered, with no basis in reality. It pitted one family against another in judgment. It was all about manufacturing divisive wedge issues that had little to do with peoples every day lives.
While everyone was busy arguing over who was the purest, Reagan's cabal set up shop to steal the store for their buddies. It amazes me every time I hear him referred to as a good President. Nixon was better. Bush 1 was better, and he sucked.

  • Atilla

Homosexuals are free to marry in Washington DC and Beckerhead and his ilk have to go all the way to Texas to marry their 14 yr. old cousins.

  • Atilla

From now on I'm calling him Scoutmaster Beckerhead of the magik underwear troop.

  • Boneman

    I don't remember, I can't recall, I don't remember anything at all. A fitting end to a nut-bag criminal.

  • oktoss

What sort of guilt is Beck hiding?

  • leggs67

deregulating media ownership led directly to this. Thanks Ronnie.

  • ted

Glenn Beck is actually a woman named Glenda Shmeck…

  • Pauline

I've said it for years, over and over again, that when Reagan emptied the mental institutions he created this mess. These are seriously mentally ill people.

I remember the surge of mental patients on the streets when Reagan let them loose. We now have them and their spawn feeding this frenzy. They're irrational people who create their own realities.

  • Keep Crying Glenn

James Cameron debating Glenn Beck would be like Albert Einstein debating Homer Simpson.

  • 1984

    Beck is anti-fact, and that's a fact.

  • Anonymous

    Ha ha ha ha.

  • Billy G.

    Cameron has had five divorces.
James, go see a head shrink, everything you described about Beck , Beck is simply a dick hole, you described about yourself. To a T.
better yet , james go and see a doctor and see if he can transplant your anus from where you
mouth should be. I'd love to kick your head in james.

  • Foxhunter

Beck is “crying” all the way to the bank.

  • 3Californias

    Advice for JC:

Consult “How to Win An Argument” with Steve Pavlina (google the quote) as well as friends who had taken/taught Political Science or Communications in college.

Don't use profanity. Manage emotion to restraint of neutrality under pressure. Profane & emotional outburst ≠ reasoned argument. It is less about being “right” and more about being “persuasive.”

The best outcome when you hold the argument with 'neutral' position (which will require utmost restraint) is the argumentative debater will put his foot in the mouth repeatedly, which will negate the audiences' opinion of the opposing debater and favor the other side that holds sensible, logical, and reasoned point of view with controlled tone and dictum.

The better option to counter the opponents' heated, shrill, and illogical rhetoric is to ignore them. Don't show up on their shows unless you're prepared adequately, because it's the center of blood-boiling rhetoric where reason loses ground and nastiness takes over with the host trying to stack house of cards in his favor by arguing and talking over the guest more loudly.

It's called Mort Downey Jr syndrome. Glenn Beck baited you and he got the reaction he wanted. He is a flame-bait and he is factually delusional in exerting righteousness over reason, partly governed by his religious view…

  • democraticjack

An insult to crazy, dangerous assholes everywhere!

  • tomhoser

right, but we still need to know if Beck raped and killed a young girl in 1990.

  • moxaman

    Mr. Cameron,

My feelings exactly! Thanks for everything you do, especially speaking out about that nazi azzhole.

  • Turnip

The right tells them what they want to hear, and then does what it wants — or can get away with.
The left tells others what they want to hear, and then does what it wants — or can get away with.

No difference there. Two sides, one coin. The left’s part to play is just the counterargument to the right, and may in general terms be less distasteful, but that doesn’t change that fact that it’s function is only to appease 50%+/- of the populace into thinking that they are represented, when they are not.

  • conspiraseer

In Avatar you cheer at the demise of many Beckwater-style deluded anti-Christ's-teachings soldiers !!

I wonder: has Beck ever addressed that point in the movie?

I wonder: Is Cameron brave enough to admit he's a 9/11 “truther”?

  • Boneman

Yes, it seems the neocon agenda was taken up several notches just preceding hwbush and the first WTC bombing…

  • Boneman

Double speak for sure… Whenever you hear a politician speak of how great ronnie was, know he is a shill bought and paid for. ronnie was good at one thing… doing what he was told. So much so he lost his own memory. Poor demented bastard, he would have been better off hanging from the gallows pole for treason than dying of dementia.

  • Boneman

Now billy g boy let's not get childish here What Cameron has done you'll be lucky to do in a million lifetimes. It's always people who have wasted much of their life that have so much to say about great successes. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you probably haven't done anything of any value in your life, right? Am I right?… betcha.

  • Boneman

Very good point about the possibility he's a truther.

  • skinnydog

Two things come out of an asshole – pure crap and stinking hot air.

  • pg 2010

Cameron's far too busy pumping out worthless franchise slum product,
and selling out, sucking up and generally covering for his 'fave' mass market's
regime's awesomely genocidal legacy to have ANY time left over for the
arduous role of REALLY being the AntiChrist.

    ———-RELAX!

  • Boneman

It's evident envy is on your plate. I'm sure Cameron really cares what you think. Everything he touches turns to gold and you just cannot take it. And I'm sure if he wanted to put you into one of his BLOCKBUSTERS to make a couple million you would tell him where to go… right?

People will always envy others who are monumentally creative.
