Maher, Moore defend Tony Bennett’s 9/11 comments

Two people who aren’t afraid to agree with Tony Bennett’s controversial comments about 9/11 are Bill Maher and Michael Moore.

Harking back on their own experiences of getting condemned for provocative statements, both Maher and Moore defended the singer’s 9/11 comments on Real Time Friday evening.

In reaction to panel guest John Avlon saying “he was offended” by Bennett’s statements and labeling them “bulls–t,” Moore came in to vehemently defend the 85 year old crooner.

“I’m not offended by what he said,” Moore said. “I think it was a brave thing to say, because what he was saying was much more complex. He wasn’t blaming and saying, ‘We’re responsible for our people getting killed.’”

“He’s just trying to say that past policies were such that we don’t get to go around the world and behave whatever way we want to behave and expect like something may not happen. If you have a pitbull in your neighbor’s backyard, and you go over and keep kicking that pitbulll and then that pitbull bites you, you don’t say ‘I don’t know why that pitbull bit me.’ Because you’ve been kicking the dog.”

When former congresswoman Jane Harman disagreed with Moore and called Bennett’s comments “careless,” Maher came in to back Moore.

“Nobody is saying that those specific people who died had it coming,” the Real Time host said. “No one is saying that. That’s how it becomes interpreted. What we’re saying is that the United States has almost half a million troops in over 150 countries around the world. That is an empire. If you want to have an empire, and this country by its acquiescence of that fact certainly does, if you want to have that big a footprint, yes, there is going to be some kind of blowback.”

Later on, Rage Against The Machine man Tom Morello shared his thoughts, mentioning how his band’s songs were backlisted from radio stations in the aftermath of 9/11.

Bennett apologized for his comments earlier in the week, saying, “I am sorry if my statements suggested anything other than an expression of my love for my country, my hope for humanity and my desire for peace throughout the world.”

Good for Bill – where is free speech kept anyway, most are frightened to speak their mind – shame on us all for not allowing free and mature discourse – reason is what separates us from other apes. Apes are the creatures that fling pooh and beat you with the stupid stick, all the while  swinging from some dodgey limb!

Bill Maher has done everything possible to discredit the 9/11 truth movement and has made fun of truthers quite a number of times on his show. Michael Moore…to quote Immortal Technique, “Fahrenheit 9/11 that’s just scratching the surface.”

We all know 9/11 was an inside job and is perhaps the greatest lie ever sold to the American people.

The Republicans would have you believe that the US was attacked on 9/11 because her people are insufferably wonderful.

The US was attacked for enabling Israel and for maintaining a huge military presence in Muslim lands via hundreds of bases, propping up dictators by training their security forces, arming them with every conceivable weapon and making it possible for them to oppress their people with impunity.

Did you know that the thumbscrews used to torture prisoners in Syria, Saddam’s Iraq and Mubarek’s Egypt are made by a novelty company in New Jersey?  Every prisoner tortured in such a fashion only has to look at their hands to see the trademark stamped in the metal.  The US is where they get their water cannon vehicles, tear gas projectors, human restraints, etc., etc..  And a guy in Scotland builds these beautiful oak gallows and sells them to these regimes for $12,000, but the recipients have to put them together themselves, just like buying furniture at IKEA.

Muslims have every reason to hate the West, and because the West is led by the US, the US takes the brunt of their contempt.  It ain’t because you’re so wonderful.  Jeez.

I refused to read anything about Bennett’s apology, that was done so his agent could keep collecting 10%.  Mr. Bennett was entitled to his own opinion, which was pretty correct, and shouldn’t have had to recant in order to keep working.

American need to realize, like that’s going to happen anytime soon, that what we do does affect people around the world and that a good proportion of them don’t like it.  There was a time when we helped people instead of insisting that our way was the only way.  Or to use another analogy, if a husband keeps beating their wife, eventually the wife will retaliate.  Or die.

We say we want to bring democracy to the world, how about we start at home first.  You know taking the log out of our own eye before we try to remove the splinter from someone else’s.

You must be new to the internets if you pay attention while you read you will sometimes come across words that are either in red or underlined because the system here is so warped and inconsistent, generally though they will just be in red, and of course that applies to this particular story.  The last paragraph begins with the phrase: “Bennett apologized for his comments earlier in the week.”  If you click on the underlined segment either here or above in the last paragraph it will take you to the earlier story that contains this statement:

” ‘Who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists, or are they the terrorists? Two wrongs don’t make a right,’ Bennett said. ‘They flew the plane in, but we caused it. We were bombing them, and they told us to stop,’ “  and links to an even earlier story about the statement.

Good luck with navigating, maybe in a little while you’ll get it down, it took me a few years too! But I started about 1998 or 9!

All anyone with the ability to use reason and look at things objectively has to do is ask “who benefited from 911″ and you know who’s behind it.  Basically follow the money.  Unfortunately we live in a time where large percentages of people put more stock in “faith” than facts and the corrupt sociopath bastards are their masters and “God”.  Today’s average Joe and Jane are too ignorant to think for themselves and must justify their world view by deriding those that simply want to bring up another point of view.  They can’t handle the truth because it would tear down their cocoon of fear, hate and “patriotism” the fascists have built around them.  We live in a global economy that depends on perpetual military conflict, theft of natural resources and the destruction of our planet.  Peace is not profitable.  Welcome to Teabagger paradise.

  • Dolmance

There are nearly a billion Muslims.  You treat a billion people like crap, you’re going to get every reaction imaginable.

If we were treated in the manner we treat Muslims, then Muslims would have to deal with our armed forces no doubt.  But they’d also have to deal with the American Nazi Party, the Ku Klux Klan and one of a thousand militias based in the US.

One of the justifications for our behavior on the other side of the world is the existence of groups like Hamas or Hezbollah or whatever.  Again – there are a billion Muslims.  You consider a billion people, you’re going to get everything humanity has to offer, the best and the worst.

For every Westerner killed by a terrorist, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Muslims getting killed by dictators propped up by the US.  And those that aren’t getting killed are living lives of poverty that is so bad we in the West would have a hard time believing it, but they’re out of sight.  Like the poor of New Orleans who the world never heard of until Katrina.

When the US stops supporting Middle East mafias, then maybe we might not be subject to terrorist acts.  It’s called war.

Oh good grief!  The whole US is considered to be the husband.  And I would be very careful about accusing people outside of the US of killing children.  WE (and yes I mean to capitalize the we) don’t have a leg to stand on.

Five children were killed in the 9/11 attacks as opposed to nineteen in the Oklahoma bombing (Remember that one? Another attack based on US policies except that time it was a home grown terrorist.) and God only knows how many children were and still are being killed by us in Iraq and Afghanistan.  In what Universe is killing children by us or them okay?  Two wrongs have never made a right and we’re on to the third wrong.  Which also won’t make anything right.

As anyone noticed how if you make a cartoon of the founder of Islam looking like a terrorist it’s called freedom of speech, but whenever you criticize the U.S foriegn policies that are Conservative approved you get bullied into apologizing?

Conservatives are notorious cry babies, they cry until a professor of a University is fired, they cry until anyone who is anyone publicly appologizes for practicing freedom of speech.

From the very minute Conservatives hijacked this nation after the American Revolution Conservatives has jack booted anyone who criticizes Conservatism. Look at Burke’s lawsuit against Paine, the Alien and Sedition Acts to put people in prison for criticizing the Federalist Party aka Conservatism, restriction on “free speech” and imprisonment for socialists during the first World War, conspiracy charges for labor organizers in the Thirties, the McCarthy repression in the 1950′s.

We are talking some serious historical facts that Conservatism isn’t a backer of free speech.

As free speech continues to grow it will be continually under attack by Conservatism.

Wasn’t she also captured on a(n ILLEGAL BUSH) wiretap chatting up an Israeli spy and offering to “waddle” in investigations to get Israeli spies off the hoook?

Washington Post: Jane Harman’s Wiretapped Conversations

It had been reported several years ago that federal investigators
looked into the California Democrat’s discussions with the suspected
Israeli agent. But yesterday, Congressional Quarterly’s Jeff Stein published significant new details,
including the allegation that the conversations secretly captured by
NSA wiretaps were “directed at alleged Israel covert action operations
    in Washington.”

Stein’s account, and follow-up articles today, raised questions about
the conversations’ links to at least two ongoing Washington scandals:
the espionage case against two officials of the main Israel lobbying
group and the NSA’s secret domestic surveillance wiretap program.

CQ’s sources, and sources cited today
in the New York Times, say that Harman was caught on the wiretap
telling the suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby Bush
administration officials to reduce the charges against the two members
of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) accused of
spying. In exchange, the sources said, the suspected agent promised to
help her get appointed chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

I wish just once that when treasonous cons like her on air, someone, just someone, would confront them on their terrible, destructive behavior.

Agreed.  The Right is twisting this to make it seem like Bennett said
that the people killed on 9/11 “deserved it”.  That is in no way what he
said, and to imply as such is disgraceful.

He referenced out policies having “caused” 9/11.  He did not say he approved of an attack, or that the people who did the attack were right in what they did.

Some of Nicole Simpson’s actions probably “caused” OJ to carve her up (especially the fact that she allegedly pulled out the knife).  This does not make what OJ did correct.

  • Err Amerika

You need to get the hair out of your eyes!  Its like the rightwinger on the show saying we only should think about 9-11 as a few nutty guys with boxcutters.  Of course we are the ones who are bombing, invading, and occupying. In addition,  bombs dropped by Israel (flown in American planes) have “made in the USA” written on their underbelly.   The real issue is WHY we are are bombing, invading, and occupying muslim countries.  Once you open those doors, you’ll discover Israel’s fingerprints throughout.

Bill Maher failed it. This isn’t an “adult” conversation. They are still talking about the very basics of what happened and they STILL dont’ even except the fact, that having a military on 150 nations “may” enrage some people.

It is ridiculous to suggest that building 7 fell from fires and that is why it should be investigated.

I won’t jump to conclusions stating that fires caused building 7 to fall
because that is highly improbable.  I would rather view things from a
lens of reality.  The building fell at free fall speed on it’s own
footprint.  I mean, jesus fucking christ are you that blind
that you can’t see that?  Doesn’t that seem a little odd to you?

I don’t blame anyone or anything until I have the evidence, but this is
an extraordinary event that deserves a thorough investigation.

It this building fell because of some freak event we need to know why to avoid this from happening again.  If this building fell because of human intervention, then things will get ugly.

Building 7 fell from fire, and there was lots of it.  There is overwhelming evidence of this actually. And only 2.25 seconds were free fall, and that corresponded to the open atrium area.  I’ve done plenty of study on this, as has the engineering community in general.  For the record I am a structural engineer with 30 plus years experience in NYC construction, not that this means you should take what I say as gospel.  I urge you to review all the evidence.  Here is some of what I have found, including lots of video of the fires.  Keep in mind that at 3:30 PM Chief Nigro pulled everyone from the building as he said it was likely to collapse due to all the structural damage and fires.  It was moving (they had a transit on it) and it was making a lot of creaking noises.  These are sure signs of progressive structural collapse, not a controlled demo.  I would also note there were no demo explosions just prior to or during collapse.  Here are some links, a ton of fire footage, and lots of photos and quotes from FDNY

    Also more here from FDNY.

“Early on, there was concern that 7
World Trade Center might have been both impacted by the collapsing tower and
had several fires in it and there was a concern that it might collapse. So we
instructed that a collapse area — (Q. A collapse zone?) — Yeah — be set up
and maintained so that when the expected collapse of 7 happened, we wouldn’t
have people working in it. There was considerable discussion with Con Ed
regarding the substation in that building and the feeders and the oil coolants
and so on. And their concern was of the type of fire we might have when it
    collapsed.” – Chief Cruthers

“Then we found out, I guess around 3:00
[o'clock], that they thought 7 was going to collapse. So, of course, [we've]
got guys all in this pile over here and the main concern was get everybody out,
and I guess it took us over an hour and a half, two hours to get everybody out
of there. (Q. Initially when you were there, you had said you heard a few
Maydays?) Oh, yes. We had Maydays like crazy…. The heat must have been
tremendous. There was so much [expletive] fire there. This whole pile was
burning like crazy. Just the heat and the smoke from all the other buildings on
fire, you [couldn't] see anything. So it took us a while and we ended up
backing everybody out, and [that's] when 7 collapsed…. Basically, we fell
back for 7 to collapse, and then we waited a while and it got a lot more
organized, I would guess.” – Lieutenant William Ryan

Here is more evidence they pulled the teams
out waiting for a normal collapse from fire…

    “The most important operational decision
to be made that afternoon was the collapse (Of the WTC towers) had damaged 7
World Trade Center, which is about a 50 story building, at Vesey between West Broadway
and Washington Street. It had very heavy fire on many floors and I ordered the
evacuation of an area sufficient around to protect our members, so we had to
give up some rescue operations that were going on at the time and back the
people away far enough so that if 7 World Trade did collapse, we [wouldn't]
lose any more people. We continued to operate on what we could from that
distance and approximately an hour and a half after that order was [given], at
5:30 in the afternoon, World Trade Center collapsed completely” – Daniel
    Nigro, Chief of Department

“They told us to get out of there
because they were worried about 7 World Trade Center, which is right behind it,
coming down. We were up on the upper floors of the Verizon building looking at
it. You could just see the whole bottom corner of the building was gone. We
could look right out over to where the Trade Centers were because we were that
high up. Looking over the smaller buildings. I just remember it was tremendous,
tremendous fires going on. Finally they pulled us out. They said all right, get
out of that building because that 7, they were really worried about. They
pulled us out of there and then they regrouped everybody on Vesey Street,
between the water and West Street. They put everybody back in there. Finally it
did come down. From there – this is much later on in the day, because every day
we were so worried about that building we didn’t really want to get people
close. They were trying to limit the amount of people that were in there. Finally
it did come down.” – Richard Banaciski

“Firehouse: Did that chief give an
assignment to go to building 7?

Boyle: He gave out an assignment. I didn’t
know exactly what it was, but he told the chief that we were heading down to
    the site.

    Firehouse: How many companies?

Boyle: There were four engines and at least
three trucks. So we’re heading east on Vesey, we couldn’t see much past
Broadway. We couldn’t see Church Street. We couldn’t see what was down there.
It was really smoky and dusty.”

“A little north of Vesey I said, we’ll
go down, let’s see what’s going on. A couple of the other officers and I were
going to see what was going on. We were told to go to Greenwich and Vesey and
see what’s going on. So we go there and on the north and east side of 7 it
didn’t look like there was any damage at all, but then you looked on the south
side of 7 there had to be a hole 20 stories tall in the building, with fire on
several floors. Debris was falling down on the building and it didn’t look
    good.

But they had a hoseline operating. Like I
said, it was hitting the sidewalk across the street, but eventually they pulled
back too. Then we received an order from Fellini, we’re going to make a move on
    7. That was the first time really my stomach tightened up because the building
didn’t look good. I was figuring probably the standpipe systems were shot.
There was no hydrant pressure. I wasn’t really keen on the idea. Then this
other officer I’m standing next to said, that building doesn’t look straight.
So I’m standing there. I’m looking at the building. It didn’t look right, but,
well, we’ll go in, we’ll see.

So we gathered up rollups and most of us had
masks at that time. We headed toward 7. And just around we were about a hundred
yards away and Butch Brandies came running up. He said forget it, nobody’s
going into 7, there’s creaking, there are noises coming out of there, so we
just stopped. And probably about 10 minutes after that, Visconti, he was on
West Street, and I guess he had another report of further damage either in some
basements and things like that, so Visconti said nobody goes into 7, so that
was the final thing and that was abandoned.

Firehouse: When you looked at the south side,
how close were you to the base of that side?

Boyle: I was standing right next to the
building, probably right next to it.

Firehouse: When you had fire on the 20
floors, was it in one window or many?

Boyle: There was a huge gaping hole and it
was scattered throughout there. It was a huge hole. I would say it was probably
about a third of it, right in the middle of it. And so after Visconti came down
and said nobody goes in 7, we said all right, we’ll head back to the command
post. We lost touch with him. I never saw him again that day.

I’d be glad to take a look at whatever you have.  I’m objective.

I will be happy to change my point of view if something stands out, but I have researched this myself thoroughly over the coarse of years and still essentially don’t understand instantaneous collapse at ESSENTIALLY free fall speed from the type of damage sustained.

Please, present your best evidence in a more compact version and I will be more than happy analyze it.

This link is the quickest synopsis, but I preferred to look at all the fires and evidence (quotes from FDNY, etc.)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwdD6ERutEI

The collapse was not instantaneous, it took hours.  Heat energy and thermal expansion take time.  The biggest and broadest fires were the floors right above the open atrium area.  Once that weakened, you had tremendous weight above.  That would pummel what was below.  At first it went through the open area, exactly corresponding to free fall.  It then slowed down.  Plus the entire collapse took about 16 seconds if you count the penthouses.  But it was building up for hours.

Think of the old saying “the straw that broke the camels back”.  If you have a sack of 99 rocks, and it is sagging and ready to burst, then you throw in one more rock and the sack falls apart and all the rocks come crashing out and to the ground, it was not the one rock that did it.  The 99 rocks (in this case all the fires and thermal expansion) that set it up.  It’s been studied by many engineers, and it makes sense.

They don’t build them like they used to.  Greed has taken over.  The motivation is to go as high as possible and do it as cheaply as possible.  That was a motivating factor for tube frame construction.  You have buildings with more flexibility, more rent space, etc.  But you also have buildings very vulnerable to fire.  That’s why they have sprinkler systems, and that is why they fireproof steel. But when sprinkler risers and branches are destroyed, you then rely on fireproofing.  In the Towers, the FP was blown off by the exploding planes.  In 7 it was intact, and the bought you a few hours.  But eventually steel fails. It sucks in fire.  In timber frame construction, the parts that need fireproofing are the steel connections.  Ever see a joist hanger in a house?  That can take LOTS of weight. But in a fire it will deform and fail quite fast.

So, I urge you to go through all I sent you at your leisure.  There is a lot of info there, and lots of links to other info.  If you are really interested in 7 as I was, you will look.  Believe me, when I first saw the video of 7 collapsing I was suspicious for sure.  But then I did all the research.  I see zero evidence of a controlled demo, especially considering there were zero explosions just prior to and during demo.  Also the fact that the building was moving and creaking is very indicative of a progressive structural collapse.

NANOTHERMITE is a state-of-the-art composite military-grade high explosive/incendiary. It developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and a handful of top security facilities within the US military-industrial complex. WTC dust samples have been analyzed by an international team of top scientists, and the results published in a multiple peer-reviewed paper in 2009. These studies still stand scientifically, having never been refuted in any peer reviewed paper.

The dust contained both unexploded NANOTHERMITE and many products of nanothermite reactions, including micro-spheres of molybdenum (!), which melts at >4,700ºF, more than 3,000ºF HOTTER than burning jet fuel or anything that was present in the buildings. ONLY energetic thermite reactions could have caused the melting of steel and even higher melting-point metals that have been observed in the dust. Whoever rigged NANOTHERMITE in the WTC caused the deaths of 3000+ people. Was al Qaeda responsible? Highly unlikely, but if so, then that organization enjoys very special relations with the US government… and nobody has gone to trial or jail for the attacks.

Yes, 9/11 was without a doubt an inside job. No, its not our country that is evil, but a small cadre of highly motivated, psychopathic individuals with highly privileged access within the US military-intelligence community that MOST LIKELY planned and executed those attacks.

Whoever did it required advance, highly specific and detailed knowledge of military activities that morning regarding not only drills and exercises, but also previously unknown changes to normal FAA-NORAD scramble-intercept protocols that, bizarrely, required the authorization of the Defense Sec.(Rumsfeld) to enable what was previous a default scramble-intercept procedure.

The US air defenses failed completely that morning, and there is why. However, no inquiry into these stunningly incriminating circumstances has been authorized. In fact, not a single person has been fired, carpeted, demoted, reprimanded, court-martialed or charged in connection with the extraordinary and unprecedented failures of the US air defenses that morning, thus ruling out “incompetence” from the likely reasoning.

Even more suspiciously, the original, almost 100% successful protocols were quietly reinstated by September 12, 2001.

    Yes sir,

Steel and concrete not burn.  Iron can “slow burn”   http://www.debunking911.com/ironburns.htm    , but neither steel nor concrete burn, and they did not in WTC.  There was no structural concrete above grade in WTC, just lightweight floor slabs that don’t even have rebar and have tiny pebble aggregate.  The slabs were 4″, and if you do the math you only had 36 feet thick of concrete, not too much in the scheme of things.  There was not concrete at all in the core either above grade.  All structural concrete at WTC was in foundation, all below grade.

As to combustibles, see below, and many of these are petroleum based, and that can burn hot a long time:

Carpeting, VCT and all associated mastics (all
    made with oil)

    Painted walls, paper faced sheetrock

All wiring and cabling (miles of it), all encased in plastic (made with oil)
    Window Treatments

Computers and monitors, all plastic housing

    Fax machines

    Furniture, including lots of FOAM

    Boxes

    Waste basket debris

    Files and papers

    Modular partitions
    Wood Doors

The numerous oil based products burning was evidenced by lots of black smoke.

Not to mention what was in the plane.  Jet fuel to ignite the combustibles
big time (carpet soaked with jet fuel, even gyp and sound attenuation, ceiling
tiles).  And when the jet fuel was expelled it immediately ignited the whole floor, this was not a small fire that spread, this was instantaneous inferno.   Also, the planes had lots of oxygen generators (oxygen fuels fire), which have explosive
caps.  Lots of them.  You would almost instantly light all these
combustibles, and they would burn a long time.  If they wouldn’t we would not need
fireproofing on structural steel, and the Fire Dept would not need ladders for
    tall buildings.

The molten metal was primarily aluminum, which melts at below building fire temps.  That’s not to say some steel would not melt in the heat generated by the exploding planes, but most of it was aluminum.  But steel does not need to melt anyway. Steel loses 50% strength at 500 C, and 90% at 1000 C.  Building fire temps are generally 700-800 C, though WTC was estimated as higher due to all the conditions referenced above.

i wish people would consider the language they use more carefully. that meme about ‘them hating us” is part of the right wing propaganda machine!!! stop using it. it’s wrong and it’s incorrect. you simply reinforce the same old tired right wing hatred-killing thing - they don’t hate ‘us’ whoever that nebulous ‘us’ is…many of these people in the third world and in particular the areas where the US has violently interferred in the internal affairs of other nations – they dislike or loathe or hate the policies!!

get it straight, america…. and so many of the people here at RS, they hate the policies!! they don’t hate us. regular citizens. time and again polls have shown that so many people dislike or hate or complain about many US policies but don’t hold it against the people of the US, for the incredibly obvious reason (i know it’s hard for some people to understand the difference) that the gov’t does not represent the people they just aren’t the same thing.

The truth of 9/11 is bad enough, why do they have to fuck up the search for the actual truth with their troof?

I’ve always thought that it was the US military seeking payback… a little revenge perhaps? for the attack on the Pentagon — not the one on the Twin Towers — that contributed most of the passion fueling our disastrous wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. (And lets not talk about “blood and treasure” as if it were some lame pirate movie.) We owe a great deal to the first responders at Ground Zero who can’t even get their cancer treatments paid for… because officially admitting there’s a link between cancer and our poisoned planet would interfere with too many people making a buck. We owe much more to those brave passengers who took down the fourth plane over Pennsylvania, thereby preventing an attack on the White House or the Capital and denying bin Ladin and his vile gang what would have been (at least to those poor, deluded people in the rest of the world who don’t worship America and our forever-pure-and-holy good intentions) a meme, a potent symbol of our weakness. If that had happened we’d still be fighting in Iran today and driving would be prohibitively expensive… inconveniencing everybody! And Americans will not be inconvenienced.

No, it did not have fires on every floor.  But the biggest and broadest were right above the open atrium area near the bottom. You only needed one floor to weaken like that, then the rest above would pummel what was below.  The free fall was only the first 2.25 seconds, and it corresponded to the open atrium area.  After that, the collapse slowed.  And WTC 7 was leaning, it did not fall straight.  But mostly it did fall down.  The building, like the Towers and most steel frame buildings, was mostly air.  Most building collapses are downward.  Like this one.
    http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/105731/46ccb8cd/bouwkunde_gebouw_delft_stort_in_topic.html

And the Towers did not fall at free
fall either.  Not even close.  Look at any video.  You can clearly see
free falling debris a good 30-40 stories ahead of the collapse, and
moving much faster. I really dont see how you can say the Towers fell at
free fall.  Here is one timeline.  Note also the South Tower Core remained standing for a good 15-20 seconds after collapse.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLShZOvxVe4

And the Towers did not just fall into their own footprints either.  WTC 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7, as well as other buildings (St Nicholas Church for example)  were heavily damaged or destroyed by steel hurling all over the place as the Towers collapsed.  This was a lot of force. If you take a 2 x 4 vertically, then apply heavy pressure from above, that thing is not just going to crack, it’s going to go flying and you better not be around or you might get impaled..

There are some photos in this video of what the Tower collapses did to surrounding buildings.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwdD6ERutEI
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgKLhsthuUU

I would also note a few more firsts:1.  First time ever you had jetliners
loaded with fuel crashing at almost 600 mph into a building and exploding into
a fireball, spewing jet fuel everywhere and igniting a huge building fire
    instantaneously.

    2.  The exploding planes blew off the fireproofing.  Huge deal.

    3.  This was not a small fire that spread into a big one, this was an
instantaneous inferno so you had weakening of steel throughout the floor, not
one space. First time ever.  Huge deal.

    4.  The WTC Towers are to this date the ONLY two symmetrical tube frame
(symmetrical tube in tube in this case) structures.  Also a
“first”.  The design used 40% less steel than conventional steel
framing.  The design lent itself to the exact collapse that happened, and
many in FDNY knew they were coming down, but could not get their men on the
radios (thanks to Rudy Moron) to pull them out.  Everyone thought the
    Sprinklers would

So, why couldn’t these four firsts lead to another first?  In fact the
    odds are that they would.

I do not work for an intelligence agency, but I am intelligent.  Plus structural engineering is my field.

good point about the coup in chile.

odd, about the same dates, isn’t it…..

I’ve sometimes wondered why there wasn’t serious blowback even earlier in history considering the many odious and onerous things in US foreign policy from the coups in guatemala and chile to the attacks and massive wars against vietnam, laos, cambodia, nicaragua, and iraq to the support all these decades for the dozens and dozens of dictators throughout the third world etc etc.
i can only assume that most human beings, while perhaps willing to defend their own country or region or people against a foreign attack or invasion, will not usually or not often go out of their way or to great lengths to seek revenge or kill people, especially innocent people (clearly those killed in the airplanes and the twin towers were innocent civilians)…..

Tony Bennett has nothing to “apologize” for. However, his comments are just a restatement of the 9/11 “blow back” theory which is unfortunately nearly completely incorrect because the entire governmental 9/11 conspiracy theory formalized in the 9/11 Commission report is a lie and a gigantic cover-up.
Jane Harman was a thoroughly corrupt Zionist puppet (like most of Congress and the President).

No, there was no need for Tony Bennet to apologize or explain.

The way the New Right Wing Corporate Order keeps people under control is to marginalize and demean anyone who does not behave in their narrowly defined boundaries of acceptance.

The Bush/Cheney regime really set up, and this president, by not standing up to the criminals and liars, has allowed to take hold, the bullying repression and loss of freedom of expression we have taken for granted.

The story seems to be that we can do
anything we want to anyone we want, and they are really just too
stupid to be angry about it. There are no consequences to our
actions. The beauty of this tale is that if something were to happen,
it could not have been prevented through different actions, and there is no reason to change our
behavior. Any actions taken against us have nothing to do with
actions we have taken against them, but rather, they are evil and
seek to destroy us because we are good. My point is not that they are
justified, but that retaliation is inevitable, if that matters to
    you. It matters to me.

10 years later, we are still reeling from the effects of that 9/11 attack, as Bush-Cheney forever destroyed “American exceptionalism” by authorizing the torture of POW’s in violation of US & International law, by Bush-Cheney getting us involved in two wars that has broken our finances, and by current Republican congressmen and Senators who refuse to cooperate with legislation geared towards turning our stagnant economy around….  All of the latter are part of a continuum that has kept OBL’s nefarious attack one that just keeps on “giving.”.

They are not lying if they have no knowledge of, or do not understand, the actual evidence that easily disproves the US governmental 9/11 narrative. Lying implies that they have such knowledge and are deliberately making false statements. Similarly, a person who receives all their 9/11 information via the MSM are subjected to a continuous barrage of Pentagon/CIA PSY-OP disinformation and therefore are not lying if they state a complete belief in the official narrative. They are wrong but justified to believe it truthful because their information channels are so narrow.

Your narrow minded disparagement of the 9/11 Truth movement is an indicator of either 1) fearful kneejerk dismissal because your world view is threatened, 2) ignorance/misunderstanding of the large body of hard scientific evidence that easily disproves the official governmental 9/11 narrative or 3) you’re lying sack of S*** disinformation agent.
Furthermore, the traditional definition of Fascism is the total integration of the State and Corporate which is the current situation in the US. The additional imposition of a surveillance police grid is a mechanism to ensure expansion and enduring success.

People are so psychologically damaged by 9/11 and/or brainwashed by ten years of Pentagon/CIA/MSM 9/11 PSY-OPS that they can’t cope emotionally with alternative narratives even if those alternatives actually correspond better to reality and are justified by hard science and forensic evidence. Hence, their response is the classic “Kill the Messenger”. My in-laws receive most information via the MSM (FOX) so they completely accept most government statements and propaganda as truthful without further investigation or skepticism. I’ve never attempted to discuss 9/11 or the ensuing ten years of western “Conquest and Plunder” because they still believe, for example, that Saddam Hussein had WMD. When confronted with the truth that he didn’t they state, with complete conviction, that he removed them from Iraq before the invasion! Their world view is fixed in concrete whatever evidence is presented.

Maher has some very good advice for himself.  On a slight twist for what he is recommending for U.S. policy, maybe the people who say things about 9/11 that angers people should ask themselves, “Do I really want to do this?  What’s the point?”

Yes, they have every right to say what they do.  They even have a valid point.  They even know that the reaction might be to their remarks might not be rational.  As he says about the US putting bases in places like Saudi Arabia, “Do I really want to do this?  What’s the point?”

The people who get angry about this kind of remark about our Saudi Arabian policy don’t want to take this advice any more than Maher wants to take the advice about being cautious with his own remarks.

    What irony on both sides.

Jane Harmon and the rest of the blowhards can kiss my ASS!  We no longer have freedom of speech in this country!  Our government IS guilty of causing 9/11!  Our government’s foreign policy is destroying the country and the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They DID cause 9/11 not just with their damn policies, but with, at the very least,  ignoring all the warnings and signs!  The bush/cheney crime administration absolutely did KILL their own citizens!  Oh, but hey,  we might offend some one like the schmuck avolon or jane harmon and the rest of the wealthy elitists!! So no one dare say out loud what the thinking people say to themselves!!!  This is all crap!!  Tony Bennett did nothing wrong but the neocons jumped on this 84 year old man!  Do they feel better about themselves now?  Do their little peckers seem bigger to them now?  Are their chests puffed up a little more while they strut like roosters?  Our Government is made up of selfish, hateful, greedy,  dishonorable bastards!

More accurately, it would be the vested financial interests that craft said favorable foreign policy that are responsible.  Surely, those 500,000 troops are not making anything safe for you, or for I.  They are, surely, making the world safe for the oligarchs and their legislated monopolies.

A person speaking his mind, is in no way relational, to murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know what “no way relational” means, but let me try to explain the irony I see in slightly different words.

The U.S. puts bases in places that make people angry.  The US doesn’t seem to think about all the possible consequences of making people angry.  The US takes umbrage when someone points this out.

The people who point this out by saying the 9/11 attacks were our fault because of our foreign policy make some people angry.  They don’t seem to think about the all the possible consequences of making people angry.  These people take umbrage when someone points this out.

A third person that points out that the second side is not following their own advice about thinking of all the consequences of making people angry.  This third person does not think about all the consequences of making the second person angry.  In this case, the third person does not take umbrage at the second person being angry, because the third person is pointing out the infinite loop of umbrage, and it would be foolish of the the third person to not eventually realize that he was just continuing the loop.

There should be no expectation from any of the people in this loop that the fourth person won’t take umbrage.  Am I now the fifth person as well as the third person?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SIMPX3GMFHWPELDA4BEKSW7JSA Turnip Magee

The only infinite loop here, is the one in your circular logic.

You know that Bill is a TV personality right?
Our foreign policy isn’t created by TV personalities, so there is no relating his comments to the US’s policy. I have no idea what your collection of paragraphs is about. My takeaway is that you are trying to rationalize the chilling of free speech.

  • Anonymous

Hehe, I don’t know how many times people have asked me to leave the country for speaking my mind. I’ve also noticed that in America there is a profound “win-lose” mentality where debate is conducted for the sake of “winning” and not learning something. I believe this is the courtesy of our highly competitive and dysfunctional capitalist economy. Of course, it’s unthinkable for people to think the monetary system is also at fault. Our economy should stress cooperation, not competition. That profit-motive and incentive stuff is false.

I personally believe we do not need a government. It’s not the people in power, it’s the existence of power that causes problems.

“The truth of 9/11 is bad enough…”
    And that is what, exactly?

    …………………………………….

9/11 Commission co-chair Lee Hamilton says ”I don’t believe for a minute we got everything right”, that the Commission was set up to fail, that people should keep asking questions about 9/11, that the 9/11 debate should continue, and that the 9/11 Commission report was only “the first draft” of history.

9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey said that ”There are ample reasons to suspect that there may be some alternative to what we outlined in our version . . . We didn’t have access . . . .”9/11 Commissioner Timothy Roemer said ”We were extremely frustrated with the false statements we were getting”

Former 9/11 Commissioner Max Cleland resigned from the Commission, stating: ”It is a national scandal”; ”This investigation is now compromised”; and ”One of these days we will have to get the full story because the 9-11 issue is so important to America. But this White House wants to cover it up”.

9/11 Commissioner John Lehman said that “We purposely put together a staff that had – in a way – conflicts of interest”.

The Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission (John Farmer) who led the 9/11 staff’s inquiry, said ”I was shocked at how different the truth was from the way it was described …. The tapes told a radically different story from what had been told to us and the public for two years…. This is not spin. This is not true.”

Maher, Moore defend Tony Bennett’s 9/11 comments

By Andrew Jones

  • Dolmance

So, no great surprise that she decries questioning the US media’s “official” version of 9/11

9/11 was an inside job.  Absolutely no question about it… scientific proof abounds, not to mention circumstantial evidence by the truckload.  Go to ae911truth.org for more info.  Over 1500 degreed engineers and scientists agree the twin towers were demolished along with Building #7.  The laws of physics are proof of this.  Why was Marvin Bush, George’s brother, in charge of security at the WTC prior to the attack and why was his contract set to expire on 9/11/01?

Anyone who believes that the Pentagon was hit by an airplane has been brainwashed, duped, and/or works for the forces responsible for the attack.  We have NEVER seen the film purported to show a plane hitting the Pentagon, on the other hand I did view a film showing without a doubt that a cruise missle hit the Pentagon.  Interestingly enough, the area destroyed housed the auditing dept in charge of investigating the missing $2.3 Trillion announced by Don Rumsfeld on 9/10/01.

That leads to the question….what was done to the passengers and crew of the aircraft that never hit the Pentagon? The plane still vanished. Every person on the manifest has gone permanently missing. Where did they go? What was their fate?

HAHAHA!   Mr. Comments… do you really think anyone with half a brain would believe that Building #7 fell into it’s footprint at freefall speed from fires?  Wow… just simply wow.  It did NOT have heavy fires on every floor… you’re account is a total fabrication and or a lie.  Even if it did, do you expect us to believe that not one, not two, but three steel and concrete buildings fell at free fall speeds into their footprints on the same day due to fire when it hadn’t happened to even one building in the entire world before (or since) 9/11?  Do you work for an intelligence agency by chance?

Once again, a whole big, bunch of you fail to get the gist of the article. Tony Bennett was remarking on the foreign policies of the United States being the main reason behind our country being attacked. Instead of thoughtful commentary on that particular subject, we get the usual tripe about 9/11 being an inside job. If 9/11 was an inside job, then our country is evil. I get it. Okay? But, can we stay on topic for once? Just once?

Building fire temps are generally 700-800 C, though WTC was estimated as higher due to all the conditions referenced above.

get it straight, america…. and so many of the people here at RS, they hate the policies!! they don’t hate us. regular citizens. time and again polls have shown that so many people dislike or hate or complain about many US policies but don’t hold it against the people of the US, for the incredibly obvious reason (i know it’s hard for some people to understand the difference) that the gov’t does not represent the people they just aren’t the same thing.

They also diverted resources from counter terror, likely intentionally.  And they then tried to blame Saddam for 9/11.  They also twisted intelligence, and even outed at NOC CIA agent.

Please link me where the that is the “official narrative”.

I don’t believe the “official narrative”.  I also don’t believe in Comic Books, which is what you are peddling.

Instead of spewing rhetoric like a FOX News host, debate some facts if you are even able to.

You have not a clue about engineering, physics, etc.

You are like Sean Hannity when he says “if were against the Iraq War, you must have loved Saddam”.  That is moron logic.  Which makes you one.

  • Anonymous

If it was, Bennett, Moore and Mahr are all lying cover-up MOFOs.

  • Anonymous

So he, Moore and Maher are covering up the truth?

  • Anonymous

Would you believe if I did?!

  • Anonymous

They are not lying if they have no knowledge of, or do not understand, the actual evidence that easily disproves the US governmental 9/11 narrative. Lying implies that they have such knowledge and are deliberately making false statements. Similarly, a person who receives all their 9/11 information via the MSM are subjected to a continuous barrage of Pentagon/CIA PSY-OP disinformation and therefore are not lying if they state a complete belief in the official narrative. They are wrong but justified to believe it truthful because their information channels are so narrow.

  • Anonymous

Same point, same answer. See below.

Of course they blast Tony Bennett and boo a US soldier.   These people actually want to destroy the US and get the rapture here asap.

  • Anonymous

Which unfortunately in your case has little correspondence to reality.

Do you understand what American exceptionalism means? I don’t think it means what you think it means.

  • Anonymous

Yes, if you act like a bully – people will resent you and your actions.

However, it seems some dickheads in the media consider a logical statement about cause and effect to be “controversial”.

I think murdering a million innocent people justified by a sack of lies propagated by corrupt politicians … is the real controversy… and one we evidently will never resolve.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SIMPX3GMFHWPELDA4BEKSW7JSA Turnip Magee

More accurately, it would be the vested financial interests that craft said favorable foreign policy that are responsible.  Surely, those 500,000 troops are not making anything safe for you, or for I.  They are, surely, making the world safe for the oligarchs and their legislated monopolies.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SIMPX3GMFHWPELDA4BEKSW7JSA Turnip Magee

Hate to nitpick here, but John Alvin’s reason why he believes that we are not an empire is that we are a republic.  The Roman Empire was a republic.  How come people don’t understand that we ARE an empire.  Every much of an empire as the Romans, Ottomans and British were.  Mind boggling.

I don’t think we purposely stirred up the hornet’s nest and got attacked, but we failed to be sensitive to the fact that our presence on Arab lands is provocative to them, and we ignored the signs and threats coming out of the Arab world before 9/11.
